1200 Barret .50 BMG about every weekend to every other weekend depending on how hot it is

43 miles west of Tucson is my backyard, we setup a 8'x8' panel painted white on that opposit hill the target is placed in the center a 16"x16" black square and shoot from the ridge the pic is taken from

this is facing south with target setup (we have to shoot either North or south depending on the time of day as the north target crosses a mining rd which is closed after 4:00 pm) this pic is from 800 yards out at ground level, BTW every single member in our lil group has hit that target many times with an AK ;) bullets hit sideways but they do hit it

i fired at a target that was 239 thousand miles away once when i emptied a 10/22 at the moon with tracers one 4th of july.

but really, i picked 300 because ive done it a few times. maybe farther but not at targets, unless crows on round hay bales qualify, if so, maybe 500, but never 10 shots.

200 all the time.

My Uncle and I used to shoot a lot at a range we set up at his place. Steel plates, (10.5"w x 12"t), hanging on chains out to 800yds. Had my own range at the place I was raised on with plates out to 500 yds. Bought some land outside of town and did all our own work, cleared trees, fabbed structure, built a nice shop with apartment inside(house to come later). Havent done any shooting to speak of for three years because working on my place. I have some time now, getting my reloading/gun room finished and going to move my range to uncles place and maybe extend to 1000yds. Still some time before that happens but I am enjoying the 22 competition for now.:D

Unfortunately, havent found any ranges yet that have longer ranges than 100 yds. I want to try anything over 100, but the most local long range is only open to public on wdnesdays til dusk. The hangup is that I have to qualify to shoot the long range and they only do this at 12-1pm on that day. tough to do when I work 50+hrs a week.

If anyone in the Metro detroit area knows of somewhere I can try my skills, please let me know. Im also interested in F-TR, but I dont know anyone who has done this. I would like to watch, learn and someday try this.

skinewmexico, that is what it says 16" X 16" black target the background panel that the target is placed against are 2 sheets of plywood which is 8' X 8' painted white as you cannot even see the 16" X 16" target at 800 - 1200 yards otherwise as we enjoy shooting with iron sights no high mag glass unless ya wanna get into just plinkin one hole next to the other which becomes boring pretty fast..... ya actually shoot for the center of the backboard... the better ya are at aiming for the center then the more rounds ya will have in the center of the 16" x 16" target

Yes I love my "backyard" before I semi retired from building and restoring Military guns and artillery I searched county records looking for areas where I knew nobody would ever end up developing till I ended up out here, it was nice being able to finish restoring something like an NFA MA2 and just take it out back for a test fire without worrying bout anyone having a stroke over it, all of the local LEOs know me as I used to (and still do just not so frequently) host big barbeques and machine gun shoots every weekend, its funny how after the initial "oh wow" wears off how many of em would get real interested in playing with old Swiss K11s or Swede M 96s trying to see who could do the best on the 600 or 800 yard range with original sights etc.. after awhile the F/A stuff will always get set aside and everyoone lines up with a bolt gun and starts seeing what they can do... I place wireless cameras at the targets so no need to travel out to check em etc... we have gotten alota new shooters started in milsurps on that range over the years which makes it all worth it to me....

Now I just work on the occasional gun or my own stuff and only build stuff that presents a challenge (I have no use for civilian commercial stuff as it just bores me to death) since I quit last Nov. but I still get calls all the time asking when we will be setting up the next shoot... right now its too hot averaging 120 degrees so... winter will be here soon :D
