I am looking to get both of my children a 22. They are very interested in shooting. She is 11 and he is a stout 8 yr old. They have been practicing with my RWS model 25 air rifle, but it is heavy for them. What is the best recommended 22 youth rifle? I like the cricket, but am concerned that they could out grow it quickly.

I'm in the same boat, but with my grandchildren. I've narrowed it down to a CZ Scout (bolt) or a Henry lever youth model.

Likely I'll go with the CZ, as they have a single shot adapter which can later take a magazine. I like the idea of single shot for teaching safety fundamentals but feel that, as you mentioned, they will outgrow it quickly. The CZ has a good trigger, which is important.

Assuming they like shooting, the Henry will follow shortly. Something about a lever gun.

Ruger 10/22
Marlin 60 or 795
Henry youth lever or bolt (advantage, the Youth lever will take an adult stock, which turns it into the Lever Carbine as your kids grow ... easy swap, too)
Rossi break action (you can get more barrels, too)

Just what comes to mind, get to a shop and see what the kids like!

I bought both of my boys henry lever rifles. The kids are pretty tall and long armed so we went with the frontier model with the octagon barrel. Proved to be a little heavy at first but the boys caught on quickly. The length of pull between the youth and the regular on the henry's is about one inch.

Got my son a CZ-452 Scout. It was a little pricier then other options (Cricket, Savage, etc.) but I love my other CZ rimfires so I did it anyway. It fits kids and the girlfriend great and is very very accurate. If a larger stock is needed there are always slip-on pads or I can just get a new stock from one of the larger 452's. I wasn't super excited about the sights - they work and came zeroed perfectly but if I ever had to adjust them it would be a pain. On the other hand I could always get tech sights or use the scope mounts.

:) I am also a big CZ 452 fan. I would buy them a full size gun and let them grow to it. The CZ is a gun that will last many life times. It has quality dripping off it. Your kids will treasure this gun. Don

bought the Henry youth for my 9 year old daughter. same reason as stated earlier? I can swoop out stocks at a later date
