Who makes .22LR rifles with very short LOPs for kids? I'd prefer a bolt action or single shot. The Cricket doesn't seem like much gun for $150. Money isn't really an issue (within reason), I'm more concerned with the value and longevity of the gun.

Once I get the gun, I'm going to Duracoat the rifle pink and Duracoat the furniture purple with white daisys on it. I think that will help get my girls excited about shooting.

I shot a Savage 70G(?) single shot rifle. It had a lever that dropped down and ejected the spent shell. I still think it was a great gun to learn with. Less complicated. You have to pull the hammer back on each shot. Easy to manually let down the hammer as well. It is small but long enough that I can still shoot it today. There is a new version that is around $180 I think. I guess I was in Elementary School when I first learned to shoot.

I guess Rossi also makes a break open .22 that is pretty good. It comes with multiple barrels such as 410, 20 gauge, or even .223.

I saw that at the last gun show and might have bought it if it wasn't .17HMR and .410.

Savage Cub, based on the 93 action. $99 if you look hard enough. Short LOP, smooth action, upgradable trigger, peep sights and very accurate. Light, too.
