Youtube restricting gun channels

I have noticed a lot of talk on this subject lately and have never used Patreon. If I understand correctly patreon is a way to pay or reimburse content providers more directly. So my question is do you have to subscribe to each and every provider and pay a fee of $1 or more per month or can you subscribe to all or multiples at for one fee.
As I said I have never used or tried Patreon and just want understand how it works. If its a fee per provider is a no go for me, for a nominal fee for all then maybe but like others here I am retired and don't really like to pay to play.
It's a fee per provider. You can pick and choose who you want to support. Some provide free content and then have "levels" of perks or advanced notice or whatever.

Patreon does not host videos per se, but they can be inserted from other sites. It's primary utility is in offering a base "salary" to creators. (Unlike YT, which will up and change monetization, or rates per view, or all manner of things.)

Utreon (note spelling) does host videos, and for free, but also offers "behind pay wall" content for creators who wish to have that sort of thing. Utreon has recently added Live streming, too.

Floatplane looked like a decent alternative, but, it turns out they have terrible uploading issues, perverse bandwidth issues, and are a pain to use as either a creator or a consumer. And, has no Featured Content or the like, so you'd have to blind search for content.

Rumble has seen steady growth. They are paying creators fairly and consistently. They are expanding their feature sets, too. They still do not have a good livestreaming (yet). For all their growth, they have not yet reached a tenth of the viewing audience of YT. And, they are the biggest other fish in the pond.

I have noticed over the past few months a number of gun related channels that I watch not being updated or being taken down.

Rules went into effect 1 January 2022 that caused a lot of people to stop producing content for YT, though they left up their channels and are earning what they can from YT. In some cases, you can't have certain content on YT, but a lot of gun/ammo/hunting/competition shooter channels still have content that works on YT and so people continue to post there because it garners them the most income.

Some folks are just out of lucky with their content and YT. A reloader buddy of mine stopped posted on YT in December 2021 and all new content is on Rumble.

A lot of my favorite sites are either moving to Rumble or backing up their posts there.

I am backing up my posts to Utreon from YouTube, but the traffic difference between the two sites is astounding. Same for Rumble. A bunch of the folks I folk post in both places and the YT channel may still get a huge amount of views, but the Rumble account gets only a small fraction of that.

I signed up on Utreon per Forgotten Weapons. I think most of the Guntubers should just get together and make a big move together to another platform with an announcement and pretty much end support of YouTube. All its going to take is YouTube to go really retroactive and almost every video could be deleted or just entire accounts gone. Think of many videos all the big channels where they are inserting a magazine over all the years.

I do videos about building flintlocks and got kicked off You Tube. They deleted over 200 videos. Only reason I got was that I am "harmful to the community". I am on Rumble now and it is much better. You Tube is getting ridiculous. Getting very common to see videos with stupid disclaimers at the start. It is starting to go way past gun videos now. Religous content is also getting hit hard. And of course anything remotely conservative. If the title of your video is "I love communism" or "What color lipstick looks best with your beard" then You Tube is the place for you.

When the cigar channels (yes that’s a thing) got destroyed by YouTube most all went to rumble, the smaller ones just disappeared. A few that have brick and mortar business stick around for the publicity/advertisement. But most channels got completely eliminated, old videos and everything.

I say this to point out it’s not new, surprisingly they practiced on others first… the day is coming when there will be no gun channels on YouTube.

Except for Hollywood movies. Guns are still ever-present there. If the Hollywood glitterati are so against guns, why don't they set an example and stop using them in their movies?

What goes on in Hollywood has nothing to do with googles policies.

It’s their playground, If you want to elicit change you have to hit them in the pocketbook.

Indeed.
Youtube has 2.6 billion active users. 122 million people visit youtube every day. Pretty sure they could cancel all gun channels tomorrow and it would have almost no effect on their earnings. In 2022 that was $7,071 million dollar (pretty sure that is $7 billion).
Their policies and practices are decidedly anti 2nd and 1st amendment.

It has baffled me for years why why “we”, the gun culture of America, continually utilize Anti-2A platforms and then complain about them for their Anti-2A actions. YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc all have gun type video posters, businesses, bloggers and individuals that continue to use them and play games to skirt their rules, which makes it apparent these internet sites are also Anti-1A…
It must be all about the money or the hope of making money.

If you went to a restaurant and they told you that you couldn’t talk to your friends and family about certain subjects while on their property and then once you got the meal you ordered you find that they removed a couple of items or changed them do you think you would frequent this restaurant often?
Probably not.

THR mods: Please start a new forum section that shows videos cross-referenced from all of these YT channels, Rumble, Full30, etc al. Problem solved.
HPJeep,
That's a great idea, but it could be laborious.
With THR folks doing this for no pay, I think it may be a bridge to far to have them review and cross reference videos.
Still, I think it would increase THR's popularity and overall experience. I noticed THR chatter going down as well.
I figured it was due to the holidays as it has increased since then.

CapnMac,

Thank you very much for the additional information. It seems that each one of them has inherent issues of one sort or another. Maybe one of them will crack the code and all guntube content creators will flock to that site making it easier for us hooked binge watchers. LoL

I was not aware of the issues with cigar channels. Interesting as I like a good cigar at least once per month. I'll definitely have to look that up. THX

Well if it is the only restaurant in town you don't have much of a choice, do you?

Brian Glenn, of Cigar Obsession, did a great job of explaining what all was going on over the years. Great guy with a decent social media presence. I’m not sure the details are still recorded as they really don’t matter now but he was more vocal and public than most others. He explained where other just ranted.

Apologies to the OP for the drift.

He's right, YouTube really doesn’t care about the firearms market. They might make more money from cute animal videos.

If we all moved to a couple of gun ghettos they would probably be happy, and for awhile we might be too. The problem is that we need to be constantly attracting new people and more of them are on YouTube.

It’s harder work for content creators, but if they keep bowdlerized versions of their videos on YouTube, with a link to their Utreon pages for spicier content, that might help.

Those members of the "elite" who take the long view are hoping to see us fade away over a couple of generations. If we don’t put constant effort into growing, that’s what will happen.

Yeah, "we" are more aware of the issues "gun channels" have, but YT is a victim of its own success. Daily upload rate is something like 500 hours of content per hour--so, they have forced to use bots to run the bots to run the bots. And, it only takes one uh-oh in the scripting, or in the go/no go listings to create utterly random chaos.
Mind, I was on Rumble this morning, and noting the viewcounts on a video I had seen on YT. That video had around 47,000 views on YT, and 29 on Rumble.
