I recently aquirred a rifle that has been passed down from my granddad to my dad and now to me the weapon is a sears and roebuck model 45 .35 cal remington lever action. Because of its age I am having a little problem locating specs. such as maximum effective range, velocity and the like is anyone familiar with this weapon? If so I really need this info

think of it as a 30-30 with some added horse-power....until someone tells me I am an idiot for saying that.

Range and trajectory are akin to the .30-30, but it has a larger diameter projectile which results in a little greater energy. Makes a great brush gun.

:)

The JC Higgins model 45.

(Sears and Roebuck, JC Higgins was the name of a guy who work there and they thought his name sounded out-doorsy, before they started using Ted Williams name)

Was built for Sears by Marlin. It is a Marlin model 336.

My buddy had one back in the early 70s in 35 Rem. He shot the heck out of more than a few moose and black bears with that rifle. Actually I just got back a return e-mail from him and he still has it...

Introduced in 1906 in the Remington Model 8 auto-loading rifle, the .35 Remington is one of the few pure brush busters.
Some hand loads will push a 200 grain slug out of your rifle at over 2,100 fps.
Within 150 yards it will slap the crap out of most critters.
It was real easy to hand-load for....
