You've Only Got ONE Shot...Make it Count!

Your gun only has one shot (round) you can fire. Which gun/caliber/loading are you going to choose, and why?

.45 caliber hollowpoint from my H&K USP Compact. Accurate enough to be aimed, and can put a man down even with the standard US GI ball ammunition. I would aim for just below the sternum, center of mass for maximum bodily damage with rapid expansion from the hollowpoint.

Now you've got two rounds and another choice of gun and ammo configuration? What are your choices now?

.45 caliber hollowpoint, this time I would double tap in the area previously mentioned.

s&w .500, to the erm....lower abdomen, I don't think anyone would keep chasing me after that (asuming they still had legs)

One shot? .454 center mass fired single action after he gets to about 30 feet. The revolvers that fire .454 are all beefy enough to deal death as a club if need be.

Two shots? .45ACP 230 grain Gold Dots from a 5" 1911, to the chest, hopefully both through the heart. Another fine pistol whipping piece if called upon in a pinch.

I'd pull both triggers at once on a 12 gauge Lupara loaded with two 3" Magnums full of 00Buck. If you only get one shot, you might as well shoot him 24 times. Energy-wise that one shot is somewhere in the ballpark of one dozen rounds of .45 ACP.

Methinks I win. :)

P.S. Colorado law allows me to carry such a gun concealed and considers it a handgun.

I would take a .50 AE desert eagle for both 1 or 2 shots. or a 454?? Is there anything bigger??

I didn't read all the posts, but when scrolling down, I saw hip shots. I like that because you get a big target to hit and even someone on drugs shouldn't be able to keep coming after you with a shattered hip/pelvic bone.

S&W 500 - .500 S&W Magnum JHP to the chest. I predict that even if he doesn't die on this only shot, he'll have some difficulty following me if I then choose to run.

At 25ft? That's taking chances for me. Like the others, I'll let the zombie closer to me (around 10-15 yds) and make him stop with .45 ACP from HK USP.

Probably a .45 hollowpoint to the hip joint.

If I miss up, I hit a kidney. If I miss low, I hit the femoral artery.

Here come da judge!

If I only had 1 shot I would load up the best .410 round I could get and shoot for the nads. :what: While it may not kill him it would make him wish he were dead! :neener:

Besides that, if he was able to walk at all it wouldn't be very fast. Do you remember the last time you were hit in the family jewels?
:uhoh:

Well, obviously the answer is not going to be a handgun in your scenario, and you did not specify handgun. However, I will give you the benefit of the doubt since you posted in the Handgun forum, that you meant to specify which handgun - here is the answer:

Next question! :)

P.S. And tell me again why we want to shoot Terry Sawchuk? He just rose from the dead to vent a bit since Brodeur is about to beat his all-time shut-out record.

If we're talking about guns we already own, then...

I think just about any .357 mag load to the throat would abruptly stop him. Slightly off center shot to the middle of the chest might work too, if you're lucky, you might hit puncture the heart and lung in one try.

I got rid of my .500 mag BFR last week. I think that with one of the Hornady JHP's that it loved so much (that always expanded and required a leatherman to remove) would drop him with just about any torso shot.

I think just about any round out of this would stop him... but i'd reach for the 1 3/4 oz (766gr) magnum slug loads, load 2 up, and hit both triggers at once. I can't imagine anyone surviving 1500grs+ of magnum 10 gauge slug hittin them.

Zabala 10 gauge SxS coachgun.

Obviously I think the center mass is the way to go, but everyone has kinda covered that. If not, what about the right shoulder area? I'd think it would be pretty hard to hang on to a machette with your shoulder blown out.

And if he's going to have to lean across his body to pick it up with his other hand, it's already over.

On a lighter note, why are you trying to kill Jason? It's a horror movie character, they don't die. Just make sure you aren't the slowest runner in the pack! LOL.

girodin,

Even if wading into it wasn't my first instinct, my big @$$ isn't getting away from anyone, so I assume at the outset that finding myself at arm's length with the guy is an inevitability.

Given that, I'd rather be facing him and not winded when the distance is closed than running with my back to him and drastically out of breath.

If fleeing were the best option for me, in all honesty I would.

I would hate to see that man invade a particular house that just happens to contain a small dojo in the basement. The homeowner is in the way of Kenpo and other sword arts and it's not going to be pretty.

Butchers put meat on table I say. But good fast cutters get the job done first.

If you run away, be a distance runner.

I used to put a mile away at 6:30, two at 14 and three in less than 20 minutes. THAT was a very long time ago.

Today? Ugh I only die tired.

Beefcake will have to be able to keep up long enough until I tire. Fortunately that should not be too difficult... damn those Marlboro 100's LOL.

When only one shot will do, make it a big one!

[/IMG]I'm waiting for a Sparks holster for this one. It is the lightest and smallest of the S&W 500's, and with a reduced load (375gr/1100fps), this round will take someone right off their feet, even if wearing a vest. I have shot it two hands over a bench at 50 yards, and it will shoot 6-7" groups. Have not bagged it, or Ransom'd it at any ranges yet, so the gun should be more accurate than my groups have shown so far.

.357 magnum center mass, then turn around and start hauling ass if that doesn't stop him instantly. when i have a 25yd head start, there is no way a guy who just took a .357 to the chest is going to catch me.

I wont go to fantasy land here, so I will choose a 357 magnum because its the biggest handgun I own. Will aim lower body hoping to hit center of pelvis, or anything vital for balance/forward motion. I will then turn and run as fast as my skinny ass will go! The guy with the whole xiphoid process shot is probally the safest. Its funny, I taught my kids to point to their nose, ears, hair..... and xiphoid process. I get a lot of laughs when I ask my 1 1/2 year old kids to point to their xiphoid process and they do! Hope I always have more than one shot if god forbid I have to take aim at someone.
