i just fired my yugo sks for the first time. it pretty much appeared unissued when i bought it. i had a norinco previously, and the trigger was quite a stiff pull like most battle rifles. the yugo however has a really long, soft pull. it surprised me. the pull is so long, i feel like i'm waiting forever for the break. is this usual for the yugos, or do i have some sort of trigger issue?

My 59/66 trigger pull is so long, it seems like a double action rifle. However, it is an easy pull, and I am accurate with it, so I don't bother going for a trigger job.

There's at least one place that does SKS trigger jobs. Kivaari is one of the most popular ones.

it's definitely a smooth pull, but i just wanted to make sure it wasn't abnormal. i could get used to it.

How do you like your yugo sks.........

i looked at one at the local Dunhams sports. I am looking for an old mil-surp to fool around with and its ether going to be a yugo sks or a mauser 24/47 the Dunhams store has them both for fairly cheap. So any input on the sks would be grand. thanks :)

That Yugo SKS trigger does seem to be able to be pulled for just about forever. Its a little too far usually for my tastes even when I perfer two stage military triggers.

You could always have the pull shortened a tad and worked on.

This guy does a really good job with SKS trigger groups and should be able to help you out.

Strange, my Yugo is not long at all. In fact it feels like the trigger sits as far back as it can go without the extra force necessary to make it go bang. The safety works great though, the trigger won't move when engaged. So my trigger seems to be out of the norm for Yugo's. It's more like a hard single-action pistol pull. Is mine broke?

My SKS's trigger is long however it's got two distinct "gritty spots" before it breaks. For Coopers "compressed surprise break" it's probably not perfect but workable all the same. Considering that I don't bother with benchresting and that I bought it to serve as an entirely "offhand midrange battle rifle" it'll work just fine. The $60.00 for a trigger job seems pretty reasonable provided it comes out nice.

IMO, SKS triggers generally suck. You can make them somewhat better by polishing some key areas. Check here for a good site on doing an at-home trigger job on your SKS.

If you do this, remember: You only want to polish bearing surfaces, NOT REMOVE METAL.
