stopped by a local shop that had some SKS rifles, one new and 3 used

Yugo SKS from Century Arms, unfired, new, they just cleaned up the cosmo off of this, wood stock was rough looking but everything else looked ok, $250

Norinco SKS, consignnment, $400, stock was in mint, near new condition, everything seem great wth it, finish was mint.

Norinco SKS, consignment, $265, stock was not as mint as the above Norinco but was better looking than the Yugo, rest of finish was as good as the other Norinco

Norinco, paratrooper model (shorter barrel), $250, stock was near like the first Norinco, rest of finish was as good as the previous 2

The three used Norincos are sold as is, the gun shop doesnt check them for functionality so buyer beware type of deal. They let customers come in and consign their guns in the shop. The Yugo is the shop's own gun which they ordered.

Is a $400 Norinco worth it? The stock was mint condition, really great overall. But if I'm going to be shooting it only twice a month as most at the range for an hour and there, I don't know if I should go with the cheaper Yugo. I don't like the fact that the used guns were not checked out by the shop so it's buyer beware but if the stock is mint perhaps the previous owner didnt abuse it.

any opinions?

No. You can get a yugo for about 200. I got one for 160 about 8 months ago. Im sure they can still be had for that.

I, too, would get the paratrooper. I have one marked Norinco Sporter which uses AK magazines...A great little rifle...

I ended up ordering a HK clone, PTR-91.....I am hesitant to buy something used when the gun shop doesnt check for functionality of the gun....but I may revisit if I get some other opinions here
