Zach Hall of Aklys Defense is a wizard with an AK47, and has designed and built suppressors and muzzle brakes for several years.
He is also one of the nicest guys you would ever meet. Meeting Zach is like finding an old friend.
Back when I built my 458 SOCOM AR, recoil was going to be a big problem for me. With the nerve damage I have in my neck and shoulders, all I could handle was two rounds.
I stopped in at Aklys to talk with Zach about making a muzzle brake for my rifle that would actually work. After we talked Zach said he had a design in mind and would have one made as soon as he could.
A couple of months later Zach had the prototype finished and mounted on my rifle. We tested it out and it was like night and day. The recoil was like shooting light 12ga loads.

The muzzle brake is now part of their standard lineup and named after me.

Three years ago Zach discovered that he had stage 4 colon cancer. With all the harsh treatments, Zach never stopped being the guy he was.
On July the 28th Zach went in for lab work and was admitted to the hospital. Today he went home with order for Hospice care. His wife says that he doesn’t have much time left with us.
The gun community will lose a great guy, his friends will lose a true friend and his family will lose a wonderful father.

Aww man, sorry to read about Zach’s medical issues. I do hope he is able to beat the disease and win, prayers are with him!

I saw this picture somewhere around the time my FIL passed. It made me think about all of us who are aging, or who have elders who are entering their final years, and still have so much to share with those around us.

Fight on, Zach!

Stay safe.

Zach can’t win this fight. The doctors have given him only weeks at the most.
I was contacted yesterday and asked if I could make him an urn. Tomorrow I’m going to look through my wood starch and see what wood I have to make it.

 on you muzzle brake, Having a bum neck and rebuilt shoulders I just quit shooting anything with much recoil.

I am sorry to hear about your friend. My wife's younger brother had the same several years ago and lasted about a year and a half after diagnosis. It isn't a pleasant way to leave the world.

If I typed words that reveal how much I hate cancer, the mods would quickly delete the post. I have a Brother-in-law with stage 4 throat cancer. He has never smoked and he doesn't use any other tobacco products. He is only 54. Sometimes life just isn't fair.

Gunny, take joy in knowing you had your friend for the time you did. I'll pray for him and his family, but I'm pretty sure The Man Upstairs has already found a spot for him.

A good friend let me know that he stopped by to visit with Zach the other day. He said that Zach was happy to see him and was in a good mood.
As soon as I get back from my trip, I’m going to try to go visit Zach. I know that if I called him, he most likely wouldn’t be able to understand me.
