There's no real downside, but the takedown feature is really only useful for transport in urban environments. I dont know a single person that would ever take it backpacking (too heavy).
Not necessarily. If you are one who believes that a .22LR's bore should never (or rarely) be cleaned, then it's completely moot.
What's a bit puzzling is that his earlier posts, for the most part, complemented the 10/22,,,,, said quite a few things that suggests there wasn't a reliability issue with the 2 or 3 he owned... but also said it just wasn't his cup of tea. Fair enough. Then, starting a couple years later, his 10/22 comments turned mostly into basically saying you're lucky to get one that works out of the box.
That's kinda the problem. You're not just sharing your poor experience, you are proclaiming that ALL 10/22's are junk. If anyone is "rabid", it's those with an axe to grind because they had a problem with one or two guns and use that as a benchmark to condemn the entire 53yr production of literally millions of guns. One of the most popular rifles EVER. You obviously liked them at one time, enough so that you bought two of them. You also have to realize that your problem guns, if they were such, are statistically insignificant. Would you get a problem AR and condemn ALL AR's as junk as a result? Not if you employ any logic whatsoever.I will complement the 10-22 on it is the most modifiable platform on the planet....you want it to shoot arrows you can, you want it to look like a gun from star wars, you can.
I have only had two, and the 10-22 fanboi's are a pretty rabid lot, I am not, I am not impressed, not with the older versions, not with the newer one flavors.
If it works for you fine, they have never worked for me....and no I will not quit telling all my experience with the rifles.
Yes. It was one of the first things I did, and they work just fine. My TD seems to keep zero repeatedly.Anyone tried to mount and use Tech Sites on one of the TDs?

I had a Bearcat that was junk out of the box. Every chamber was peened and the frame was misshapen. Do I condemn ALL Bearcats because of this? No, I have enough perspective to know that it was a rare exception and its replacement is excellent in every way. I had to return a Cimarron 1860 Richards Type II .44Colt because of fit/finish issues and an ejector that was an inch too short. Do I condemn ALL of them? No. That would be silly. In other words, get over it already.
No...I proclaim that they are the very Definition of ENTRY LEVEL 22 on the planet, and there are much MUCH better choices out there.
No...I proclaim that they are the very Definition of ENTRY LEVEL 22 on the planet, and there are much MUCH better choices out there....this thing gets a pass because it is so easy to toss parts at it....in fact so many toss parts at it you can now build a 10-22 and have ZERO parts from ruger....wonder why that is....oh yea, never mind.
It is not rare that has happened to me....look at find people that say the real truth about this tomato stake and see the same kind of response they get....they keep getting shouted down by fanbois till they go away....now they can talk nothing of praise for their $1500 10-22 with carbon fiber this, and that whatever BS it takes to make the stupid thing shoot straight and run a magazine in it.
It has run all that time and made that many because they are so cheap to make....shows in quality....and you can do anything to them....that is it. They are not good guns....just good enough. And the brain washed masses that keep buying the things think that is the end all and be all of rimfire....a little like AR fanbois.
Sorry they are just not that good.....it is just one of those things that people live with.....well it only took this $5 part and now it is great.....not acceptable.
I'd love to know what parts you think people are swapping just to make them run? Where exactly is all this rhetoric coming from? Idon't think there's a better choice on the market for a pure handy plinker that stows away so nicely.
I haven't found anything that beats my Browning SA 22's in that category.
Now you're just being a troll.Blasphemy.....repent unbeliever....repent or forever in the bowels of hell.
The 10-22 is the only rifle...it is the rifle...why it can do anything you 10-22-a-phobe.....you just can't read, or have not used them enough.....why I pity such an uninformed excuse for a human....alas I think you are lost, that is unless you burn all other rifles that are not of the chosen one....the great and holy 10-22, Repent sinner....repent....there is still time for you.
The Browning is great but it's twice the cost of a 10/22 and I don't think anyone's going to be stashing one behind the seat of their truck.

Ruger 10/22 $169.99
Browning SA 22 $599.99
Seems like a pretty fair comparison.
