A long-winded discussion of this is beyond the scope of this forum, but suffice it to say that you are wrong. (I would be glad to debate this if the moderators would allow.)We are not a democracy.

I don’t know what they thought. What I know is that it took a war to settle the question. Their belief in a natural right to freedom, if they had that, didn’t do squat.Did not slaves believe they had a natural right to Freedom? Do not people believe that they have to right to quiet enjoyment of the privacy of their homes? Do you mock these as propaganda?
At this point, a quote from Robert Heinlein is appropriate--"You can't enslave a free man--at the most, you can kill him." And another anonymous quote "Don't take counsel from your fears." How often we don't even try, and we fail simply because of our fear of failure."
And others in the North believed that they had a natural right to freedom as well.I don’t know what they thought. What I know is that it took a war to settle the question. Their belief in a natural right to freedom, if they had that, didn’t do squat.
Because men, no, that is too strong of a word...because sheeple like you were so willing to live on your knees appeasing the will of the majority...
Maybe your rights are up for vote. My aren't.
Lucky me. No kidding. We have the best possible governmental system, and I am deeply appreciative of it. So appreciative that I am not willing to depend on imaginary natural rights for the defense of our way of life. And others in the North believed that they had a natural right to freedom as well.
Here is the thing--you cannot kill an idea, whether it is with repression, ridicule, death of those holding it, it always seems to pop right back up. It may wear different faces, may come from different tongues, and it may disappear for awhile then come back even stronger than before.
Apparently you scoff at the idea of inherent rights as a right thinking materialist, yet your very existence in society and the society itself came from other people believing in that concept. Ironic do you not think?
I guess that we are going to need to cut at least one belt loop on every pair of pants if/when this passes.
