So one of our members sold me this old 500 bout a month ago. My FFL buddy an I finally connected and I picked it up last week.
I should have taken before pictures, but there weren't any major scratches, dings, or dents, it was just finish ware.
I bought the stock set off eBay before I even had the gun in hand. Supposedly it's an "experimental" set, tho from who knows where.
The stock took some fitting, and is still proud at the top, rear, of the receiver.
The forend is about 1" longer than the 7 3/4" slide tube. I dunno how closely one of the other like shotguns parts would fit, but my initial thought was that it might be off an 870.
To get it to work I bored it a little more than 1" deeper at the rear, and opened up the sides. It now goes back over the receiver about that much, which means I need to relieve the right side for the ejection port. I also much prefer the long forend look, but moved back to it covers more of the gap in front of the receiver. I still need to paint the forend cap...er...nut?.....whatever.
Both stock and dorend are checkered, and it looks like laser, or machine cut. No borders, and no errors.
I wanted to do something a little different with the receiver, so I wire brushed it, and painted it with "bronze" engine enamel. I did it with rattle can for two reasons; one I didn't know if I'd like the look, and two I don't have bronze duracoat yet, it's on my next order. I also painted the pump arms.
I've decided that I DO like this color scheme, and I'll probably go ahead and redo it in duracoat properly.
Im also going to durablue the barrel and pump tube (which I haven't touched yet in these pictures)
Anyway, still got some tinkering to do, but so far I'm very happy I didn't tacticool this gun like I'd originally intended.....oh it's also go very nice swirl/fish scale engraving on the bolt and lifter....gonna polish that up and durablue the lifter, probably leave the bolt white.
