Looking at a Smith model 64

Update: the forcing cone was hiding under some heavy leading. Chore boy, 2 thorough cleanings, a brass brush and 300 FMJ thru her revealed the cone. The trigger was much lighter and smoother today than the last range trip. I think it had been unused for quite a while and never had much use at all. The hammer and trigger show zero drag marks or signs of use. It's going to get plenty of use now and I think the trigger will continue to improve IMG_0088 (2).JPG

I'm going to look at a used Smith 64-8 service revolver that looks to be in good shape(from photos) at a local FFL today. I've been reluctant to order one online since you never can be sure of the condition until you get it. If it passes my inspection I'll come home with it. I was holding out for a pre lock/mim M64 but for $300 I don't think I can go too far wrong.
Buddy you did good! I own three M64. A 2” and two heavy barrel 4”. One of my 4” guns was a LEO trade-in from the Virginia Department of Corrections. The Virginia DOC very unceremoniously stamped the left side of the frame on mine F.C.C.W. 37...Fulvania Correctional Center for Women. The number 37 is a rack number. That gun has quite a bit of external rack wear but I doubt it’s had more than two or three hundred rounds put through it. Pristine rifling and indexes and locks up perfectly. She’ll shoot a six shot 1” group at 25 yards. I paid $317 for it out the door.

Adventure Outdoors has pre lock model 64 Georgia LE trade ins for $249 and $299 for "hand picked" if anyone might be interested.
