I am 70 and been retired about 2 years. I started reloading in 1972 and have accumulated many firearms. I love the hobby and plan to continue as long as I can walk, but that's another story.

Thought about just such a thread as this last week. Didn’t know how to word and certainly couldn’t do the “vote” thing.

Thanks OP. Thought there would be more of us old guys. I’m in the 70ish almost 80ish Group.

My phone is my library, tomorrow we do our annual migration south for the winter, between range visits and reading the winter passes quickly.

But here’s the thing: in those days, they were talking about 7mm Mausers and 30-06s because neither the 7mm Rem Mag nor the 25-06 had been invented yet.

In terms of being "invented", the .25-06 came into being shortly after WWII; a cartridge developed by A.O. Niedner. It wasn't until 1969, though, that Remington "domesticated" the former wildcat by producing it commercially.

I'm 53, usually feel twenty years younger, except in the last two weeks the kidney stone flair up makes me feel my age or older lol. Guess this year time to divert gun money toward getting to see the urologist .

I lived in Alaska when it was still a United States territory. My father was an Army 1st Lieutenant and we had on base housing in Ft. Richardson. One of my first memories involving a firearm was when I was six and playing with my older brother throwing a tennis ball around the cul de sac in front of my house. I believe it was early summer as we weren't wearing heavy coats.
Out of nowhere this large (everything is big to a little kid ) moose came galloping down a side street and head butted a bus. I remember being frozen in place as we watched this animal charge the bus and several cars. He would run off into a field and turn around a do it again. My mother came out, snatched us up, and herded us inside along with a neighbors kid.
We had been inside for a couple of minutes watching from the dinning room window when two Military Police jeeps pulled up and four soldiers got out with long guns. My mother shooed us away from the window so I didn't see it but I heard a half a dozen shots. When I got a chance to look again the moose had managed to run about a hundred yards and collapse. I then saw a soldier take aim from about twenty feet and fire a head shot.
When your a kid it don't get much better than that. I remember my mother crying. It wasn't till I got older that I realized she was just scared. She was a city girl and the whole thing was very disturbing to her.
To us dumb a** kids it was the coolest thing ever.

You can say that again.

I turned 54 on opening day of NY hunting season, have more upper body strength than when I was 20, can almost see a six pack, but not quite. Don't work out but, hoist 100 lb car and truck tires, parts of all kinds. The joints hurt but still make a range trip once a week, just can't shoot heavier recoiling rifles like 06 and 7mm mag.

Surgery has relegated me to short actions. The mind is willing.

I still run and play with each of my 14 grandchildren.

I'm 32 and look like I'm 40 because I'm losing my hair and going gray.
All I can say is it's the miles, not the years.
I've moonlighted for an ambulance service and fire department for 7 years while logging as a day job. Then I moved across the country and started building Natural gas compressors.
One thing you'll find is, there are good people everywhere. You have to be one to find them.

This thread has been a hoot to read!
I recall a lot of what has been said to the point back when JFK was shot. TV's were brought into our classroom(s). Got home, Mom was crying, she was having many things going on including the death of her Dad just prior to the assassination.
On a brighter note, I retired on Dec. 14, 2016. Collected my first SS check last month. Life is still good, but I wish that I felt as strong now as I did in my forties, (10 feet tall and bullet-proof) the peak of health for me IMO.:)

I remember watching the Challenger explode and the Berlin Wall coming down on the news. I remember Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-in, and the Bob Newhart Show.

I also remember the last assault weapon ban, and I remember thinking “Good!”, Because I was a stupid kid who had no idea what a horrible oppressive thing it was. I was a dumb kid.

Hmmmm, what other gun related stuff do I recall?

I remember watching the Carter/Reagan debates and my grandfather getting mad when I told him I liked Carter more than Reagan.

I just barely started going gray a couple of years ago, but I noticed the other day that after a few months of working Graveyard shifts, I have aged years. Fully vested in my retirement with this company in 4 days, then I'm doing some major soul-searching and a career change.

I can still go out and do whatever I want to in the woods, but I can see that ending in a few short years, especially if I stay in my current job. My girlfriend is ten years younger than me and looks like she's in her late 20's or early 30's. We'll probably end up getting married and she said the prospect of her being a grandmother to my three grand kids at her age is hilarious.

Old enough to know better, but too young to resist. Turned 72 in November, yes, I remember lots of things, I just don’t recall some of the details, well ok, most of the details! I still screw stuff up, it just takes longer than it used to. That’s a good thing, I think? Yes, I’m familiar with firearms, been handloading for the better part of 60 years, have had a lot of, “been there, done that” over the years.

Old enough to have watched Lee Harvey Oswald being shot on live television, just not old enough to remember it :) Mom told me we were all gathered in the living room watching the television when it happened.

I rarely see a divide of opinion concerning firearms use and safety among our members that can be attributed to age. We have a diverse membership but I have no idea what our average or median age is. IMO, it tilts towards the grey hairs but then a specific topic comes up and I realize that there are a lot of younger shooters out there. So, I am posting a poll to see what our age breakdown is. This is not a public poll so your answer is random. If you wish to add a comment about your age, please do. This is mainly a data collecting poll.

Hmmmmm, Are your from the "Government" ??IS this like the proposed changes to the 4473?

He He He,

If I asked how many guns you owned, you may have a valid point.
I'm just a census taker trying to find out how old we are so we can figure how much money we can claim from the .gov for subsidies. If we can come in at an average age of 65+, we can then claim ourselves as a protected group who qualifies for whatever freebies all the other protected groups get. Why not?
