I like to say that I have an accumulation, not a collection. I bought my first revolving pistol in 1983, but one I bought in 1985, an S&W Model 58, is among those I still have, though its parts became loose enough that I stopped shooting it by some time in the early Nineties. I did not wear it out, all by myself; it had been an issued San Antonio (Texas) PD duty revolver, before I bought it.
The GP100 visible in my avatar image, acquired in the very early Nineties, is the revolver that has been with me the next longest time; not until about 1990 could I financially justify keeping any firearm that was not “working for a living,” and even during most of the Nineties, I did not tend to keep many firearms that I did not regularly use. Several really nice revolvers and autos were sold to finance a serious 1911 pistol “phase,” that I started in 1997.
The revolver that I have had the third-longest, since the early or mid-Nineties, is an S&W Performance Center J-snub, .38 Special, based on a Model 642, but given its own model designation, during a time when S&W tended to do that. Its frame is stamped “M460.” Its black finish is much-worn, from its time riding in ankle and pocket holsters, and it has become my wife’s gun, after my hands finally got tired of .38 recoil with light-weight J-frames.
Some of my presently-owned revolvers literally did work for a living. The S&W Model 58, a fixed-sight .41 Magnum, was my duty handgun from some time in 1985 until some time in 1990, and may have served as a brief interim duty handgun as late as 1991, when my Colt Commander starting having problems, and was then replaced by a SIG P220.
My first GP100, seen in my avatar image, served as my primary duty handgun from June 1993 until some time in 1995, when a lighter-in-weight S&W K-Frame Model 66 took its place, though that GP100 continued to serve as a “bag gun,” while I was on duty, for much longer, into the second decade of this century. I have continued to carry Ruger GP100, SP101, and Speed Six revolving pistols, during personal time, and into retirement, to this day.
I have some S&W and Colt DA revolvers, and Ruger, US Firearms, and Standard Manufacturing single-action sixguns.
Several of my revolvers were added during a nostalgic time, post-retirement, 2018 to about 2022. If I remember correctly, I have not bought any revolvers in 2023. I may be about to thin the herd, just a bit, because two of my most-recently-acquired revolvers had been customized by Gemini Customs, so, were rather expensive. Or, maybe I will sell a few auto-pistols, rifles, or, may not sell any firearms. (I am also trying to decide whether to sell-off some camera lenses. Regardless, I really should down-size a few things.)
