Over the years people have been killed and injured by old black powder guns and explosive cannon balls and shells. The guns by people who thought they weren't live or loaded. As to explosive cannon balls and shells they are mostly unexploded Civil War ordinance in the US. Just because it is old...
Going down the rabbit hole here but all the talk about black powder got me thinking about powder requirements in the part. I calculated just to fire 1 broadside(27 cannons 1812 armament) would use about 175lbs of powder. 350 lbs to fire all the guns once. The black powder requirements for use...
The revolver pictured is an Open Top.with the S lug barrel. When Colt started making conversions out of the unsold percussion guns and thousand and thousands of existing rough and finished parts they had enough barrels. As they worked through this existing inventory they finally ran low on...
I have one with the cartridge conversion also. I can't believe the bank vault lockup on the gun with both cylinders. Better than anything else I own including my S&W. Mine has the frame turning plum color as a lot of them do. Makes them distinctive.
I keep mine in an old wooden dynamite box that my grandfather(I am now one year shy of when he died at the age of 72)put a pair hinges and a hasp on 70 or 80 years ago. It says WARNING & HIGH EXPLOSIVES on all 4 sides and the top. Nicely built box with dovetail joints, back in the old days...
Are we talking original or reproduction Rogers & Spencer revolvers? I have a Euroarms R&S that the cylinder locks as good as my S&W 10-5. I will agree they are the best outside of the Ruger.
My Euroarms Rogers & Spencer revolver from the 70's has turned plum color also. My Euroarms 1851 and .36 1858 NMA have not. At least I know I am not alone.
Looking good. The CCH makes your gun. I had one of the plain blued steel framed .44 1851's that looked not as good as yours. Sorry I ever sold it, though I used the funds to buy my 1849. Oh well at least it was for another gun. Have fun making clouds of smoke.
Interesting article. It isn't the first time something like this happened in the Army. Think Trapdoor Springfield rifle and copper cartridges getting stuck. A documented problem. Some theorize this happened at the Battle of Little Bighorn and contributed to the massacre. Ironically if they had...
Only about 4-450 miles from Italy to Ukraine at the nearest points. That is like the distance between Vancouver WA and Reno or Gkacier Nat Park. Not that far from a full scale war.
Nice gun. I enjoyed the video. I have always wanted a Snider or variation of one which your Zulu is one. I almost bought one a few years ago but the deal fell through. I had even bought one of the HF little cutoff saws to make the 24 gauge shells the the right length, still have it unused. If...
Looks like some of the Remington factory conversion guns with no loading levers I have seen in pictures. Remington made a lot more different conversions than Colt. I for one like the way it looks.
