For those of us unable to take fencing classes due to a lack of time and/or funds, could you guys recommend a DVD or something similar with basic, no-nonsense, realistic self defense sword training courses?

What would you put on one of these? A sling and some sort red dot sight would make sense. Got any other ideas? Also, how's the quality on M1 Carbines made by Auto-Ordnance?

How about Cold Steel's factory seconds? They're usually at half the price, and since I'm poor I'd like to know if they're majorly screwed up or of adequate quality. Their page says it's just minor blemishes but you never know...

When I am shooting paper targets, it's always from 25 yards and using one hand. I find this makes it much harder, meaning I really have to get the technique down. However, the duelist stance is not really usable in "real life", so maybe I should try some other modes? I notice a lot of people...

Would a sword make a good option for HD if effective firearms are not available? What types would be most effective and what training should one undertake? I am guessing a quite short sword would be most effective, meaning kukris, gladii, European medieval short swords, smallswords...

If all you have is a Ruger 10/22, what can you do to improve your situation? I am looking at some other guns (first up is a shotgun for putting food on the table, after that a Mini-14 for fun and hunting), but right now I have to make do with what I have. I have heard there are special loads...

I'm not really a shotgun man so I just need something to shoot some pheasants and rabbits at quite close range. What can you recommend? 16 or 20ga will probably work fine for my needs, right? If I can get it used or new for $100-150, then I'm a happy man :)
