About time to get a new rifle. Why not start the new year fresh???

I have a few hundred salted away from the sale of my Marlin 39A and need to spend it on something nice. Perhaps a new .22LR rifle??? Like I really need one?

Anyway...hope you folks get something that's new, metallic and shoots bullets very well.

Great idea. I have everything but the barrel for a new Remage build. Thinking maybe a 7mm-08 ... or even a 7-08 AI. Don’t need a thing; it would just be for fun.

Maybe a CZ457?

A bit early for New Year's, but I bought a Suhl 150 in a McMillan bench rest stock back in November. I'm still waiting on a good weekend (weather wise) to wring it out.
Any Suhl is a good Suhl! BTW, a little sacrilege to start the new year: "You could always cut the Suhl down and make a plinker out of it!!! Ha ha!"

I already have my new "rifle" ordered - a Shaw barrel in 6.5 Grendel being made for my Savage, that currently wears a 7.62x39 barrel. Plan is to have a "switch barrel" rifle - so to speak - and it's nice that the Grendel shares the same bolt face and mags as the 7.62x39. Can't wait to shoot it!

I've got a 7.62x39 pistol upper currently being built and I purchased a Ruger Mark 4 and a Keltec PMR 30 over my work break for Christmas. It's gonna be a fun 2019. Happy New Year to everyone and shoot safely.

Ordered my newest rifle Dec. 24th.... A Henry Single Shot in .308. Should hopefully be here sometime in January. I figure that's a good way to start the new year. Next on the list is selling a safe queen to make room for it; or perhaps two safe queens as those full stock CZ-455's in 22LR continue to intrigue me

Currently debating with myself on getting a Ruger American Rifle Compact in 6.5 Creedmoor, a Ranch model in 7.62x39, or else a CZ 527 Carbine, also in 7.62x39.

Kind of favoring something in 7.62x39 mainly because I literally have a ton of ammo for it.

Did you have the grendel chamber cut .011" deeper to compensate for the different depth bolt face? 7.62x39 uses a .125" deep bolt face whereas the grendel was spec'd with a .136" deep bolt face.

My purchase a few days ago wasnt a rifle, but a colt revolver from 1905-1907.

Good question on the .125" vs .136" bolt face. I thought you could make that much adjustment when you exactly headspaced the barrel in the Savage action. I would like to be educated since I have an old Savage 110 long action heavy barrel in 22-250 that I have considered re-purposing. At 20 tpi, doesn't that make about a 0.22 (7.92 degrees) additional turns than standard for the Grendel?

Couldn't tell ya much more, esp about the savage. I didn't even know there was a difference in BF depth between the two until a few days ago, and I've had a grendel for a number of years.

20 TPI will equate to .050" lateral movement per thread. Therefore spacing the barrel out and extra 1/5 of a turn would give near proper headspace. A machinist with a dividing head could get it perfect.

From the bit I've read, the grendel, grendel 2, and .264 LBC chambers all use different combinations of BF depth and chamber depth. Yet all factory ammo seems to work in any of them, regardless of correct headspace (saami spec is original chamber). My barrel is for an ar15, and is an older stoner 24" model that came with a matching bolt. Its chambered .264 LBC and has cycled all the factory loads I've fed it. I need to measure the BF depth to satisfy my curiosity.

I've got parts on order, and I'm waiting on my permit for a handgun.
I also said i wasnt gonna buy any new rifles this year.......

So I've just been looking.....

And for some reason I really want a MKV deluxe in 7mm WBY, or a Bergara Premier in .280AI. I'm gonna keep my wants above my budget and see if I can't eek out a year without another new fun...er gun...
Tho that SSG my buddy's, buddy has is calling to me quietly.....

Chances are I’ll have a 264 Win Mag before deer season 2019 gets here. And I’m thinking pretty hard on it being an “Extreme Weather” Winchester 70.

I’ve been intrigued with the 264 Win Mag ever since I saw the Model 70 “Westerner” stretched across the tops of two pages in a 1962 Winchester-Western catalog in my mom’s and dad’s country store. Of course, I was just a 14 year old deer hunting and rifle crazy kid in 1962, so a 264 Win Mag probably wouldn’t have been a good choice for me. And indeed, that’s not what my folks chose for my first big game rifle. They bought me a Model 100, 308 Win instead. I still have it, and it still works swell.

However, in April this year, I’ll be a 71 year old, deer hunting and rifle crazy kid. And the “intrigue” I’ve had with the 264 Win Mag since I was 14 is still with me.

As a matter of fact, the recent 264 Win Mag thread right here in THR "Rifle Country" started my 264 Win Mag itch up again. I think this is the year I’ll finally scratch it.:D

I need a garand while the getting is good

I think that everytime the gun fund gets a little plump (it's starving to death at the moment), then never make the purchase because there's always a list of things I want more than a Garand.

As for making a purchase right now, I could never do that, SHOT Show starts in 3 weeks. I need to see if the new gun announcements match up with anything on my "guns/variations I wish were produced but aren't" list, then I can start planning 2019 purchases.
