Glock 42X

Do you think Glock should give the X treatment to the G42?

If they made it I would buy one, if I could. I live in California now. At least for 4-5 years more and then I am outta there.
I have shot the 42 and the 43 and I like them both. I think the 43X is a great idea and I think a 42X would also be a great idea.

If you think a Glock or any .380 is a girl’s gun then by all means, do not buy one. Real men shouldn’t subject themselves to such things. :p

You missed an option in the Survey. "It's a great idea, but I doubt I would get one."

It is a good idea. However, my G42 showed me that I just don't like striker fired pistols.

Some mentioned that It would make a good gun for women. That ignored a problem with the G42. It is hard to manipulate the slide. The spring is pretty heavy, it is almost heavy enough to use in a blowback pistol. To add to that, the slide has a relatively slick surface. In the least, it needs front serrations. I tried to see if my wife, or daughter, was interested in it, both were put off by the difficulty in manipulating the slide.

How about a compact-length, slim-width "X" grip, but double-stack .32ACP? Should be good for "G43" grip width, and 15 rounds with a flush-fit magazine. With a 3.5" barrel, the ballistics of .32 is not as bad as it is with a typical little Keltec or whatever, and compared to a G43, you get twice as many shots to try to get a hit with.

Not hardly.

Why? Because it’s inexpensive? It’s polymer. Easy breakdown. Blowback. It’s American made, so it doesn’t have the Austrian import mark up. Better warranty than Glock. Aren’t you at least interested? I know I am.

Fair point on the G42. Comparing the G43 to G43X the slide on the X gun is much easier to grab. The coating is not as slick, and it has front serrations. One would assume that a 42X would have the same treatment.

why not just put a hyve+2 extension on an existing 42? (there are other options too) it fills the grip from front to back for more gripping area and gives more capacity. And you still have the capability of not using it and having a more compact weapon if you want.

instead of the 43x, which is both a stupid idea and name, they should have just made a 10 round mag and a grip extension cover thing for it. something like these attached images.

or you know, developed a stack and a half mag like sig did. And make it of metal so it could be thinner. I like the glock 43, I have one and chose it over the sig, but good grief glock needs to do something different. The last time they innovated was in 1982.

The SCCY CPX-3 is not a blowback operated gun. It uses the same Browning locked breech operation as Glock 42.

P.S. Breakdown requires a tool. Joe Roebuck retained the Kel-Tec P-11 disassembly procedure when he cloned it.

Thanks for the clarification! If it’s not a blowback, it should be a pretty soft shooter.

Not sure a G42X would sell, I've heard that 42 sales are way off since the introduction of the G43.
According to one of the largest Glock distributors in the country [GT Distributors], G42 sales are still very strong for both civilian and LE.

BTW, apropos G42X, something funny happened here. I wanted to attend a local match this Sunday, and they have conditions that one must bring 3 magazines with 10 rounds minimum capacity. I was very tempted to show up with the G42, but I only have 1 ETS and 1 Promag. I considered ordering another Promag with an overnight delivery, but I'm too stingy for that.

Im surprised how picky my G42 is with various loads. I have a Kahr P380 that is a lot better in terms of tigger and accuracy. I suspect the G42 will have far superior long term reliability tho.

I voted no, but I don’t think it’s a stupid idea. I just bought a G48 and I personally think that sized pistol would sell very well in 380 ACP. Almost the perfect balance of recoil control and small enough grip for small framed shooters. I don’t think there’s much market for the G42 length barrel with a longer grip, but I could be wrong.

I got to thinking “what if Glock did the X treatment to other guns like the G42?”

I decided not to wait for Glock and build one. In fact, I made 2 models: G42K Sport and G42K Short (I reserve the "G42X" for Glock themselves if they ever get around to it, hence the "G42K"). I ran the G42K Sport in a local amateur match and it felt quite good. Tap-tap-tap.

For me a 380 is a deep concealment firearm. So a s&w bodyguard or Ruger lcp size I prefer. If your going the G42 size you might as well go 9mm.

OK, now we’re getting somewhere. What magazine?

It's the ETS. The G42K Sport takes that 12-rounter, the Short is sized for the 9-rounder. Personally, I only use the Sport. I printed out one G42K-Short just for kicks, but now that I look at it, it's not bad. Here's a picture of G42K Shorty versus G42 SI+2, same scale:

The G42K has 1 more round than SI+2. Also, it does not pinch. The SI+2 has 1 less round, but it has the advantage of the gun remaining unmodified, so you can take stock 6-round magazines. Now that I look at all this, Glock could make a decent G42X using compatible magazines, unlike what they did in G43X/G48.

The G42K plastic is attached to the gun using glue strips from Christmas lights. It works quite nicely in practice, although as I mentioned, I didn't try to carry it.
