Vickers' 50/50 Rule

Larry Vickers, lol. Ain't seen that guy in years. I remember some time ago he made some FAL videos full of bad information and was posting to Fal Files. When one of the senior members offered constructive criticism (that Larry had asked for) he took his football and went home in a huff, never to return because Larry is former spec ops so he must be right about everything even though his video was full of bad info. Acted like a total child. To his credit it looks like he finally put the fork down. Maybe his sling sales have tapered off.....

I’ve seen guys mess up all the things he talks about at our local rifle matches. Especially the ‘AR too dry to run’ one.

Even with Pmags, which are designed to allow some headroom when loaded w/30 rounds, will not lock up reliably when loaded with 31.

looks like he's not twisted 1 in 300 these days, but do as he says, not as he does in the video.

I know I read too much into words, part of my condition, but I don’t understand the name of the “rule.”

The video describes 2 gear management tips and 3 operational technique choices to reduce “at least 50% of any of the problems you could have with this weapon system.”

Call it, “5 tips to reduce malfunctions by 50%” and maybe I’m on board. “How to load an AR with 50% less failure,” sure. But I really didn’t hear a singular “rule” I could put my finger on.

If someone asks, “what’s the Golden Rule?” I don’t expect someone to recite back the 10 Commandments as a singular “rule.”

What else sticks out to me when I see these videos and I think about the entirety of the training industry around AR’s and defensive and civilian combatives training - it ain’t Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, it’s an AR. It’s not that complicated. I’ve shot hundreds of thousands of rounds in AR’s, and I really don’t understand how so many folks have THAT many problems with their rifles. The things are made to run - build them right, then get out of their way and let them. BCM builds great rifles, if I thought a BCM might choke just because I followed the charging handle home, I wouldn’t say they made great rifles. It befuddles me to think folks out there really feel it’s THIS complicated to run AR’s.
