XDS 45 acp

I had the 1st generation and carried that for a while. I now carry the newest version and like it very much. Easy for me to carry IWB. I carry with the extended magazine and carry an additional extended mag. For whatever reason, I feel like the gen 2 is more comfortable to shoot.

Now that SA is apparently phasing out the older model XDs in favor of their new pistol, the Echelon, I am watching the price of magazines for these older models, to wit, the last XDS 45 magazine I saw was +/- $35. That’s sporty in my book, and might keep me on the fence about buying an XDS.

I bought my 1st 3.3" .45acp XDs in Aug'13 (w/pineapple grenade grip treatment) and my 2nd (Mod2) in Aug'19.

As I type this sitting at my kitchen table, my XDs Mod2 is in a DeSantis MiniScabbard holster at 4:00 on my belt. ;)

I like the first model very much and the second even more. It shoots well & relatively-softly in my hand and carries comfortably in my OWB holster. It is what I been carrying most often for the past decade.

I've carried my XDs .45 for over 10 years. First using the paddle holster that came with it. Then a Desantis and finally a Crossbreed Supertuck IWB at 4 oclock with Crossbreed double mag carrier at 8 oclock for balance. Had the Supertuck modified when I added a Veridian laser. Last month bought a Crossbreed bellyband but have not tried it yet.

Carried the first generation at work for about 5 years. Also bought the 9mm version for practice. Both were sent in for the recall. Soft shooting for a small 45, accurate and easy to conceal in a hybrid holster with untucked shirt. The cheesegrater front of the grip got subdued, although seem to remember the later generations were not as aggressive. Do not like the extended mags, and a total of 6 rds of 45 acp served the purpose with offside extra mag. Although carry slightly larger in retirement, kept the xds for front pocket carry on occasion.

What are your thoughts on the Springfield xds 45 acp for a carry gun
I haven't carried either of my XDS-s in a while, in favor of other things. I have a .45 and a 9mm. Both the original (not Mod 2) model.

Shoot one first, to make sure it's not too much gun for your comfort.

Run enough rounds through to make sure it runs well. (There was, it appears, a stretch early on where some .45s had a problem reliably going into battery.)

If you're past that, and capacity (5+1 with the short mag) doesn't bother you, go for it.

The recall, and redesign of the grip safety, was before the 9mm XDS came out.

I carried an XDs .45 for a few years and was happy with it.
Then I went to a 9mm Shield Plus with a dot sight.
They're about the same size, but I like the 14-round capacity and the dot a little better.
The XDs is a fine gun, but the out-of-the-box triggers usually need work.

I misremember then. I remember the problem cropping up very soon after introduction, and the .45 was the first.
Used to say "if memory serves" quite a bit. Lately have been forgetting to add that. At the time circumstances made it a pain in the butt to send them back, which is likely why i remember.

My friend has an XD-S .45 (I have two in 9mm) and it's been a good pistol for him and his wife, who both passed their ccw course using it. I only shot a few mags through it and had no issues with reliability or accuracy, I just preferred 9mm. I don't know what the market is like today but at the time it seemed pretty novel for a subcompact big bore carry pistol. Now that I have a shield plus my xd-s has been outmoded but it was an excellent firearm. I actually wish my shield had a grip safety like the xd-s.

I bought one when they first hit the market. Mine has been trouble free, but I haven't used it in a long time.

I never bothered with the recall.
