Do you guys recommend cleaning off all the protective grease on a new machine(mec 600 jr) ?

If so isBrake cleaner ok to use?

Have three machines. Only clean them when I need to, I just wipe off the old crud with household cleaner

I wiped my new machine down with a rag dampened with alcohol, but there wasn’t much protective grease on it.
Then I lubed it per the instructions..
Brake clean might wanna take some of the paint off…maybe…??

Brake cleaner is pretty harsh and for cleaning brakes. I prefer milder cleaners. M-Pro 7 gun cleaner at worst Simple Green automotive cleaner. I don't use harsh chemicals like brake cleaner on anything but brakes. Never had the need.

Strong brake cleaner may eat into any plastic parts. I would use a household spray cleaner or mineral spirits on a rag to wipe off any grease or oil.

Non-Chlorinated brake parts cleaner is a good solvent to be used on steel parts. It's uses are definitely not limited to cleaning brakes. I clean steel gun and die parts with it. It's good for Aluminum too. It won't harm polyethylene or polypropylene which are some of the more commonly used plastics. However, I would expect it could damage vinyl (PVC) and ABS very quickly. It will definitely act as a solvent on paint and polystyrene. It can be harmful to skin and contains components that are absorbed through the skin that can harm people. It's also not good to inhale. So, it should be used with nitrile gloves in a well-ventilated area. It will definitely dissolve any wax or grease on the press. The plastics used on the press are probably resistant to it. If you have metal-only parts, they could be sprayed off. Otherwise, it would be safer to use a paper towel or shop rag. Spray the towel or rag and wipe the parts. One of the nice things about brake parts cleaner is that it leaves no residue. It also strips any lubrication which may need to be replaced after the solvent has all evaporated.

I hope you have components laid in. Shot, primers and powder are skyrocketing in price. Good luck and welcome to the hull stuffers club.

I used mine out of the box. No degreasing. The mainspring will need some lube after a couple thousand but you should be good to go.

No to brake cleaner.

I just wipe my 9000's down w a rag, blow out the parts w an air compressor, and lube as directed in the manual.

Enjoy!!
