Non-Chlorinated brake parts cleaner is a good solvent to be used on steel parts. It's uses are definitely not limited to cleaning brakes. I clean steel gun and die parts with it. It's good for Aluminum too. It won't harm polyethylene or polypropylene which are some of the more commonly used plastics. However, I would expect it could damage vinyl (PVC) and ABS very quickly. It will definitely act as a solvent on paint and polystyrene. It can be harmful to skin and contains components that are absorbed through the skin that can harm people. It's also not good to inhale. So, it should be used with nitrile gloves in a well-ventilated area. It will definitely dissolve any wax or grease on the press. The plastics used on the press are probably resistant to it. If you have metal-only parts, they could be sprayed off. Otherwise, it would be safer to use a paper towel or shop rag. Spray the towel or rag and wipe the parts. One of the nice things about brake parts cleaner is that it leaves no residue. It also strips any lubrication which may need to be replaced after the solvent has all evaporated.
