Here are a couple pictures of some wood guns I made for my son. I thought you guys might enjoy them, or be inspired to build some for your youngsters.

Toy guns have really gone down hill over the years. I'm glad to see you making your son some fun stuff to play with!

I'd suggest putting something bright and orange in the barrel. A police officer driving down the street would probably react poorly to seeing your kid brandish what looks like a real handgun.

There's a reason toys today don't look like guns at all. :p

We had a long talk about cops and real looking toys. I remember when toy guns went to orange, and I cherished my "pre-ban" toys. Little did I know how I would spend my life dealing with dumba-- laws and manufacturers. We use these for play and training. I have thought of selling some but it takes SO long to make these. If I had a shop I probably could make them a lot faster and then they might be viable for sale.

What would you guys expect to pay for something like this at a gun show or over the internet?

While it would take a little re-engineering, you could probably set both up to shoot rubber bands for added cat-terrorizing fun! ;)

You realize that you have created a monster though. In no time, he will be looking at a mag funnel and checkering the backstrap. You have probably just created a Brownells customer for life.

Disclaimer, you should never shoot at an animal unless you intend to actually kill it. Thus, hand him your 1911 when aiming at the kittah. :p

Shotgun took about 2 hours build time with another half hour for paint/details. I don't have a shop, so I sat on the carport and built the thing with a scroll saw, router, and dremel tool. The 1911 took much longer to build. I really just wanted to see what could be done and it gives me a chance to use these tools and see what works and what doesn't. Making the guns 3D is what takes time, I have made many 2D and those I can slap together in no time.

Check out the pics on the previous thread of 2D guns.

I'd just like to point at that I'm fairly certain those must have an orange tip to avoid legality battles with the 'man' if he brings them outside. It's the reason airsoft guns have bright tips.

I think you could probably charge $50 (including shipping) a piece and sell them over the internet without a problem.

Have you bought any Airsoft guns recently? Scale weight, size, look, feel, action, about $20 and shoot plastic BBs that sting good, but can't do much damage.

Wow! Outstanding work, bama. :)

Made a MP/Stgw 44 in wood shoppe in junior high. It looked great, but I was disappointed that I could not figure out mag release and had to leave it attached. "Worked" great during church retreats in the woods and hills.

Maybe we need an unofficial "THR Toy Gun Contest". Post pics and have Mods declare winner? Winner gets a case of ammo?

cidirkona, people have an attachment to anything made from wood, by an individual and not molded from a machine. Thus, I'm sure there would be a premium to be paid for the wooden toys.
