a firing position you've never seen before

Someone mentioned it being an arctic warfare rifle, and I suppose in arctic conditions tree stumps and such are not around and that soldier's butt would be the only rest available. I don't think a bipod would be much use in inches of snow either. Having the muzzle of a .338 inches from your ears/head would not be healthy so that would explain the odd position. You know what they say, if it looks stupid but works, it's not stupid!

doesn't seem as if it would be all that steady of rest. It would keep the muzzle blast from blowing dirt up and giving away a position.

When I was in Birmingham last year, I found out about a govt. stop-smoking program in effect that involved upping the price of a pack of cigs to 10 pounds a pack. (A pound was equal to about $2.80US then.) 28 bux for a pack of Marlboro reds, y'all! This picture, I'm sure, has to be evidence of another govt. program to conserve ammunition, see? The bolt on that rifle's open because there's no need for a round in the chamber. That Brit knows that the enemy's gonna die of laughter. No shot necessary.

Only problem I see is how are they gonna prove if the guy on the bottom (jeez) was shot in action? Ya can't make a hole where there already IS one!:neener:

There are lots of things I want to say here, but if it works as a good rest then by all means use it. I once shot a .30-06 rifle using a friend's shoulder as a rest. Of course I never thought about using his ass as one. :D

I did something similar with my girlfriend on my birthday a few years ago, it was a fun shooting trip.

***Gomer: "Gooollllyy, Sgt Carter. The instructor sure was right about having better shots using this new position! Are you sure you're still OK down there?

***Sgt. Carter: "Shut up Pyle!" :D

I CANNOT BELIEVE nobody's made a "Hey, while yer down there..." joke yet. Fer crissakes, let's get with the program, people! :D

While we did not use this specific position, I've been to a long-range shooting school where shooting off your spotter's body was taught.

I've shot off my spotter's shoulder before, and have had a rifle fired off my shoulder, too.

The technique allows for shots off rests when no rests are available and in situations when prone just won't work due to terrain features.

I'll admit, it looks downright obscene.

But I've shot from such positions, and even been used as the rifle rest before.

We fired at targets up to 500 yards away like this, and typically started from a standing position, and just dropped down and scrunched together.

It was actually faster than getting all the way down into prone, getting the bipd adjusted, etc.

Uh... Where is the shooter's left hand? And what is it doing?

I was always partial to this target stand. I hear they have a lot of them in China.

I can only think, at this time, of John Cleese walking around in a Royal Marines Sargents-Major outfit bellowing on the proper way to defend yourself with or against a banana....

You gotta love the UK. :)
