Post your targets - The 15 yard pistol challenge

I'm the opposite of the normally-shoot-at-7 folks

Here's a few targets of mine, but first the disclaimer: I normally shoot at 15 yds, but due to the construction at the range I belong to, putting in some new 7yd targets, the 15 yd target stands weren't available. So you have to draw imaginary circles at half intervals here to see what the results really were.

I did think about printing the targets half size, and blowing them back to full size in the scanner, but then people would have looked at the enormous holes on my .38/9mm targets and asked, "Just what kind of big-bore .78 cal BP pistol were you shooting, anyway???"

So, from left to right in the attachments: .22LR from my cheapo Heritage Arms Rough Rider 6.5", using CCI Mini-mags. It actually shoots pretty well--wait and see how long it lasts. 2 strings of 5 shots each; the flier was the very first shot.

Then, my trusty S&W 910, with UMC 115gr FMJ . One string of 10 shots.

Finally, my SP101 2 1/4", first with S&B .38spl 158gr FMJ (these are all obviously 5-shot strings).

Next with Gold Dot 125gr .38spl +P 125gr JHP.

Last of all, Gold Dot .357Mag 158gr JHP.

Also, my compliments to those of you who shoot as well at 15yds as I do at 7!

[Edit] Oops: these were all offhand, 2 handed, isosceles stance.

Hey, since I'm new around here (says so right on the label: "new member"), is there any way to upload attachments and then link them from the text? I couldn't find an icon/tool that did that, but thought it was worth an ask...

Todesengel,

What I still don't understand is, why don't you tilt the target board a little more so that you bullets hit it perpendicularly? (see attachment for my daring reworking of your highly original art)

mini revolver

Pistol Caliber out of a rifle counts? Even with a rifle I could't compete with some of you. This thread was a great Idea. I know I'm not supposed to use a rifle.
My first 5 shots were good. In the sixth shot I started shaking from the pressure of knowing I was going to post the picture. I messed up the sixth and seventh.

I don't normally practice this far with a snubby. Looks like my old air weight had some sideways bullets. Gonna have to look into that.

Tried 3 times with my NAA mini. 22mag. 1st 1 out of 5, second 0 ,3rd 1 out of 5. no sights.

You with the rifle reminds me of that scene in "Unforgivin" where Clint gets fed up at missing with the pistol and blasts the target with a shotgun. :neener:

Dont' feel badly about the mouseguns. You can see on my first target post exactly how well I did with the Kel-Tec P-3AT (and to be honest that was my 2'nd attempt).

HUGE PIC WARNING!!!!!!!

Well, i finally made it home to do some shooting. it was bitter cold, windy, and a snowy in spots, but it was worth it to get to shoot something. i brought the sister along too. She's 18, but has limited shooting experience. she likes to go when we let her:D please excuse be gentle on our shooting skills, i could make a list of excuses but why bother. without further ado....

Ruger Single Six SS, 6.5 in bbl, shooting Federal Bulk .22 LR

we where both kneeling using a saw horse as a rest.

1. practice target: note even sis kept em almost all on the page and inside the circle. i think some of them outside of the circle are actually mine from wind/cold getting me suddenly.

2. sis is uP first. 6 rounds, i shoot 6, she shoots 6, 12 total for both of us. she was really upset that she missed the target. she noticed she had changed her grip so she changed it back and put the second cylinder on the paper.

3. Me.

4. Me one handed duelist(?) style.

5. And to top it off, pace off 85 more out to 100. Try my luck for the first time ever. Red dots are my hits. i was sitting on my ammo(tackle) box using the saw horse for a rest. my front sight exactly coverd the paper. i think i was shooting over my board for the missing shots. I was so proud of myself. I guess only guys such as yourselves know the feeling:D:D

was unforgiven the one about the bounty hunter that came out of retirement?
He had a reputation for killing women and children?

I saw your 2 on the paper, wasn't going to let you show me up! I only hit it once.

The wind finally let up.

I make a ultra light plinking load (1,000 fps) for my Kel Tec PLR .223 pistols.
I use very cheap pulled GI FMJBT bullets that have rather bad pull marks. The scored bullets make the accuracy suffer a little but they make good blasting ammo.

The first two shots were a little low, so I raised the point of aim slightly.

BTW I cheated a bit, as my PLRs have two point slings which I used.:)

I'm loving this ink saving targets, switching to these exclusively!

All groups shot two hand standing, indoor range.

I'm not real proud of these, but honesty is ALWAYS the best policy.

The 10-5 is a 5 inch pencil barrel, but I am disappointed with my shooting with the PO1. I've gotten 2.5 inch groups at 25 yards with this load. Bummer. Better next time.

Heh, I walked right into that one. :D

Though if having a HUGE gun is supposed to be compensating for something, what does that say about having a really small gun???:neener:

Here's mine from yesterday. I do better with the 625 than with the Ruger.

22 miles and did NOT forget targets this time.

Well, last time I forgot my targets: sleep deprivation is my excuse.:uhoh:

Today I remembered them and things went better.

I shot three targets with my Caspian/STI gun. It has target sights and a nice light trigger. I shot 200 Gr. Berry's HP's, 200 Gr. Hornady FMJ-CT's, & 185 Gr. Berry's SWC's. I was going to shoot the Zero 230 JHP's but ran out of targets. All bullets were backed by WST. I was trying some to see how it would shoot. It shot pretty good. It's ES & SD's went down as bullet wieght went up. Interesting.:scrutiny:

I shot another target with my 3" CDP II which has a good firm but crisp carry trigger. I shot the Berry's 200 Gr. HP again.

Then, just for grins and giggles, I shot another target (Caldwell) with my CX4 Storm in 9MM with Ranier 115 Gr. FMJ's and N330.

All targets were shot with two hands, standing.:)

OK, first off, let me say that 15 yards is a heckuva lot further than it sounds...
I'm one of those 7-yard guys too, but this sounded like fun.

All shots are two-handed standing (basic indoor gun range shooting), six shots per target.

I used up a target shooting the 586 half the target height high, then realized the 158 gr. bullets that were hitting center at 7 yds were doing their thing and hitting high at 15.

The posted target reflects me figuring out that I needed to use a 6 o'clock hold.

Now, feeling very wise, I switch to the Model 19. Six o'clock hold.
"Bang".
Hole at 6 o'clock.
Alrighty then, physics be hanged. Center hold with the 19, five more shots.

I started with six targets, and three guns. You're getting the only two I'm willing to post.
Altogether though, an interesting little experiment, and I didn't do as bad as I thought I would. Might have to go out to at least 10 yds more often.

"In a snow storm, after lunch" is my excuse! Went out with my 11 year old today to see if he liked a Kimber 1911 .22 conversion better than a Sig Mosquito for this summer's league shoots. Shot these with new (to me) guns.

I picked up the Model 67 (4", .38 Special) at the York gun show yesterday, and ran a couple cylinders through it to get used to trigger. With handloads that I worked up for my Model 15, it did OK-1 in the X, 3  in the 10 ring, and one flyer. The trigger is a little stiff, so I think it's gonna get a polish job and lighter springs.

I got a Rock River Arms Basic Limited Match (5", .45acp) a couple summers ago, and it has been sitting in my safe ever since. Took it out last weekend, and had lots of assorted failures with light target loads. Then it dawned on me that I had a 16 pound spring in it. Put a 12 pounder in and it ran like a sewing machine today. Not yet a "one holer" at 15 yards, but with right load it's got possibilites.

I hope this works

I couldn't help but start at 25 yds.

Not bad for weaver gripping a Taurus and no bench. I really like .22 mag don't know why.

I didn't shoot as well as I wanted to, but I doubt any other day would have me shooting much better

25 yards again

Browning HP 9mm at 25 yards, standing with a two had hold, thirteen rounds.

A 26 pound trigger spring makes a world of difference for trigger control.

.223 Rem 15" ENCORE

223.jpg

Slight wind in my face. Sand bag rest. Goes to show that Wolf ammo is not worthless. I am using Wolf 55 gr to break in my new pistol. It has about 160 rounds through it now and it is getting easier to break open. Give me a 89-3X because I forgot to fire the the tenth bullet.

This is my best shooting. It is way not the best ammo for a contest. My goal is to hit a turkey at 50 yards and with more practice and better ammo, I may get there by March 15.

Here's mine. I stayed home sick today but got to bored to sleep any longer so I went to the range to get un bored. Hopefully this works. By the way I think I've gone over the 40 hill the front sight is starting to get way too fuzzy.
