And I need a place to shoot. Rifle, pistol & shotgun. Prefer outdoor ranges, something that gives me 200 yds or more. Any suggestions???

Oh you lucky bum. I'd love to live in Williamsburg. I love history, I love the area, you are near the beach (which I love) and the laws are pretty decent. Unfortunately for me there isn't an Orthodox synagogue there so I will never move to Williamsburg, VA :( .

200 yards around here is a no go. Best bet is Richmond a place called Black Creek about an hour away. Sorry I have no url for them but I go there from time to time. Laffyett gun club in yorktown has indoor pistol and out door 100 yard rifle + a skeet range. Thats about the best your going to get. There is a 200 yard private gun club in Suffolk about an hour away but they are super hard to get into.

url for the cowboy action shooting club that uses the black creek range. http://kcscorral.net/index.html

wow, no 200 yard...thats almost alien to us westerners. heck, our public range is 30 minutes from city center and has a 1000 range. of course, it also happens to be the worlds biggest public shooting range.

wow, no 200 yard
there use to be a range in Va Beach but blackwater or one of its subsidaries soaked it up and politely priced the public off the property.

Try this link: http://www.huntingnavigator.com/huntingdir/virginiashooting.html

I am not sure how accurate it is but it could be worth a few minutes to google and/or make a few phone calls.

By the way I love Williamsburg, I am trying to get my daughter to go to William and Mary just so I have a reason to visit there more often. I would consider retiring there but the State of Virginia would take a piece of my retirement and I don't like that idea.

Good Luck!

Ed

William and Mary College,Chartered on February 8, 1693, by King William III and Queen Mary II as the second college in the American colonies.

Trivia: And what was the first college, my Colorado brother?

There's a 100 yard public range to the west wide of Williamsburg. It's in Chicahominy park . Times are limited and you can't use handguns.
For 200 you have to go to West Virginia.

Shooting ranges

Good move to Wiliamsburg, although with the students/tourist the local saying is "good news is it only takes 20min to anywhere in town, bad news is it takes 20min to get anywhere!". For long range shooting, once your settled, find someone (or someone that is related to) with a far. Great groundpig shooting at ranges up too 4-500yards, and in the fall good deer hunting also. On rt60 about 30min away is Old Forge Shooting if your into clays.

For 200 you have to go to West Virginia.

Cavalier Rifle and Pistol club just west of Richmond has a 500yd rifle range. But it's a private, members only club with a 3-4 year waiting list to join. Nice place. I'm not a member, but I've shot there as a guest a couple times.

Depends where you live in Williamsburg as which is closest. Try the Lafayette Gun Club, members only. Indoor Air/Small bore only, indoor pistol,50yd, 100yd, 5 stand and trap.

I googled gun clubs in Va, an entire list is available. There's one in in Charles City near there.
Chicahominy?

There's two shooting ranges in Charles City County --

Chickahominy Wildlife Management Area is a state run range. Rifles only, no handguns.

Conservation Park of Virginia is a members only private club which features trap, skeet, rifle and pistol shooting. Shotgunning is their specialty and the trap/skeet range is the best in Virginia. The rifle/pistol ranges (100yd max) are ok but nothing special.

Wow, so many people seem to be in love with Williamsburg. I think its boring here lol. The only business in the area is all shopping, the restaurants are all cookie cutter versions of each other, the local theater has horrible productions, commuting to Newport News everyday gets old fast, and its hot & humid :( Oh and I forgot to mention all the snobs

Haha. If you're the homebody type, or are the type who can walk around a park for hours and not get bored, then you'd fit in. Me, I very much look forward to going back to Blacksburg at the end of the summer :p Williamsburg has way too many building & homeowners associations making sure everyone puts on a good face to be any fun imo

+1 for Lafayette.

Although I've never been there, I have met several folks who are members.
All seemed like good people.

Cavalier is OK.
They are in the process of getting lots of grief from the locality.
Dunno how long they can hold out.
Difficult drive from W-burg -- intolerable on weekends in warm weather

Quantico is further up the road.
1000 yards, 50 firing points
NOT in West Virginia

Geographic down-side of Williamsburg is water on 180 degrees.
No off-shore gun clubs that they will let me in.

Someone mentioned Black Creek. That's back up the road, toward Richmond. (I grew up in the Black Creek area.)

Apparently they don't have a website. Here's some information that might help.

Mechanicsville - Black Creek Shooters Association, 4292 Range Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23111.
Phone: 804-781-0267
Facilities include: Outdoor Pistol (25, 50 & 100 yds), Outdoor Rifle (25, 50 & 100 yds), Rifle Silhouette, Trap
Range Access: Private

I'm a member at Black Creek, (Cold Harbor) but that's a drive from W'burg.
$100 a year.
Va. Conservation Park (Charles City County) is a bit closer, $250 one time fee, and $200 a year.

+1 on Lafayette Gun Club. I have been looking for private land around the area for some time and have located some, but they will not let me bring guests. That is still your best bet is to drive around the countryside and just ask. there is a range down in VA beach that you can use that is public and that is the C2 shooting center http://www.thec2center.com/eastranges.html. I was told that it is nice. Welcome to the area. When you get in the area, let us know and we can go shoot...Take care...

You lucky dog. I'd give anything for an opportunity to relocate to the Williamsburg area. I vacation there for a week every summer. It's a wonderful place.

Sorry, don't know anything about local ranges.
