I am just curious. So many pieces of this once great country do not allow to carry for the private citizen (legally). I am curious, if it "were" illegal" would you still carry. I am speaking in terms of concealed carry of course.

You know the old saying "better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6".

Edit: I should correct the above. United States.

Carrying illegally is a sure way to lose your gun rights in many jurisdictions. Prosecuting such a case is usually pretty black and white so it's plea bargain to avoid a trial or go to trial and get convicted and get a stiffer penalty.

Rockwell1: THR indeed does. However, I am not encouraging it by any means. You read too much into my words. The last thing I am trying to do is bring out the net nannys. I am saying "if" you were in an area where it was illegal to carry, would you still carry to protect your life and perhaps your wife and/or kids?

GRIZZ22: I was not asking about the law or penalties. I was simply asking, would you carry if it were illegal? This of course is not a perfect world, so say going into a bank with metal detectors would surely get you hung. Isn't the basic human right to protect and defend your loved ones?

Think about it. Let's see. Simple scenario. Walking down the street near the hollywood paladium. 3 bad guys, jump you and your wife. Oh poor pity me, I don't have a firearm. Darn, where is my cell phone, I need to call 911, thump thump thump. You 3 bad guys can have your way with wife when you have pounded my face into the curb. Thanks for playing.

Again the question is would you or would you not carry illegally to protect family and of course yourself?

For as long as I can remember, my Grandfather always carried a colt .25 in his pocket. I was born and raised in a Chicago suburb/Nicolet National Forest, WI.

Personally the law is the law, so I would not.

What always amazes me about these threads is the fact that people think a firearm is the only way to defend yourself. That if you're not carrying, then you might as well just bend over and take it.

And that's total crap! If you want to claim to be defenseless because you can't carry, I guess that's your choice. Me, I'll find a different tool to use. As effective? Perhaps not. But at least i'm not whinning about being defenseless.

I currently live on the CT and MA state line, I spend roughly half my time out of the house in MA where I do not have a LTC, and the penalty for being caught with a gun is severe. The other half is spent in CT, where I am licensed.

I am scrupulous about always carrying in CT, but NEVER in MA. The citizens of MA passed their laws, and when I am in their state I respect those laws even if I disagree with them. If I felt the need to carry while in MA, I simply would not go there. Life is full of choices and trade offs. I have to believe however in the rule of law. If I disagree with a law, I would work to amend it, not violate it.

Some people here view carrying a gun as their god given right, I do not subscribe to this version of "natural right"... and I am not so passionate about carrying a handgun that I would violate a valid state law to do so. In my case, the penalties for so doing and being caught as simply too steep. If a law is unjust, there are other ways to petition the government for redress of grievances.

Should the Connecticut legislature attempt to limit concealed carry, I would fight that law strenuously, but should it pass lawfully, it would be the law, and as a citizen I would be bound to follow it. No one likes Federal gun laws, but even those on the right realize that states have almost unlimited police powers over their citizens.

I am 50 years old. I have "carried" when I thought I should for the last 32 years. I always considered the 2nd ammendment my right to carry but when Ohio made CCW available. I applied and now carry according to the law. If you feel you may need to defend yourself. Why wouldnt you?

It's not about the right to carry a gun, it's about the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. None of which you have if you are not allowed to first defend your life. There's a reason that one is listed first.

As to the specifics of my carry practices, I'm going to do as another did here and plead the 5th about my 2nd, but I have read and researched the Founding Father's reasons behind the 2nd.
