Thanks RC - I am even more puzzled after your helpful response. I took out a very bright light and a 10X eye loop to see if I can see any hint of a dash and number. There certainly isn't anything. The other concern, albeit simple to change is, it is in perfect condition (like unfired) but has...
I'm wondering if I could get some help with the age of a S&W J frame.
It is a Mod 36 no dash
SN AVU4464
This one has me puzzled as it doesn't have a flat latch and a wider than normal trigger (from what I remember on a no-dash) and no pinned barrel.
Thanks
A couple years ago I had a few from revolvers I had bought and sold in the 70s and 80s. I put them on Ebay one at a time and they sold fast to a buyer in Japan.
I carry mine both strong side (owb) and pocket but as has been pointed out many times before, if you pocket carry use a pocket holster; unless of course you don't value your junk. I'd also add, snub nose revolvers aren't meant for 25 yrd shooting. Great for close in self defense. I use 110 Corbon.
I read American Handgunner, Handloader and American Rifleman as part of my NRA membership. I found this thread interesting because as part of my Christmas I was offered another subscription and after much thought and a trip to the bookstore magazine rack I was unable to come up with another gun...
I certainly don't ask. I have been to several parties this season where I suspect the host would not have approved if they knew I carried. I shouldn't have to ask if it is okay to save my life or theirs if need be. They will not know unless the need to use it requires I pull it.
For the guns you never plan to shoot, as already been suggested maybe an application of Rig or simular paroduct. A Golden Rod in the safe is nice if you live in a high humidity area. I live in the desert and I just wipe em down every few months and use a dehumidifier block which I have to dry...
It would be down my list a ways on my first choice to carry but I wouldn't see why it would be too big. I see a guy at the hardware store every now and again who carries a 6" 686. It's certainly big but what is too big?
I may be over simplifying this but...shoot it. Kahrs are one gun who mean what they say about 200 round break-in. I would get some good ammo and shoot a couple hundred rounds. Can almost guarantee it clear up on its own.
I agree with what has already been said as a short barrel S&W in 357 up to 44 Mag is hard to beat. This would include the 45 ACP. Of course I'd carry 44 Spl in the 44 Mag for self defense,
Maybe you already have, but you might try posting this on the NBRSA site or contacting Dave Brennan. He may be able to direct you to someone who would have it. I have long since lost his contact information but I'd guess you could find it on the web. Might also try Ebay at times I have seen...
I have had a number of Kahrs starting with the MK40 way back when they first came out. I carry a CM9 most of the time. I have always found them to be reliable and very well made. I too like the trigger although a 1911 trigger is hard to beat. So many folks dislike the Kahrs becuase of the...
As has already been stated and I'm sure you know, you can't go wrong with either the Redhark or 629. The Redhawk will handle heavier loads and heavier bullets as some heavy bullets require a bit longer cylinder which the Redhawk has. The Redhawk is more durable but I know few people who have...
My job often takes me into the back country near the boarder. I always carry and keep my eye open. Once drove down into a wash and into a temporary camp. Folks scattered in double time. Never had one walk up on me. That would be interesting.
If you have an interest in what an air rifle will do velocity wise for curiosity sake, go for it. As has been stated before air rifle are much better in the lower velocities under 900fps. I have two PCPs one 22 and another 25 cal that will kill a coyote and both are under 900 fps. I stay away...
Sorry for your loss. While I'm sure you feel a great loss he has given you a great legacy and wonderful memories. If I have to go, and we all do, being in a hunting camp ain't such a bad way to go.
