Identity and Date of Manufacture of S&W Revolvers

The 36-1 refers to a three inch heavy barrel variant. The Model 36 no dash continued in production until 1988.
The pinned barrel was eliminated in 1982, but there was no -designation for this change.
The flat latch was eliminated in 1966, so apart from a target trigger, it sounds like Nomad's gun is correct for a 1987 build and serial number.

Thanks RC - I am even more puzzled after your helpful response. I took out a very bright light and a 10X eye loop to see if I can see any hint of a dash and number. There certainly isn't anything. The other concern, albeit simple to change is, it is in perfect condition (like unfired) but has current day J frame grips.

The Model 52-2 .38 Master single Action was manufactured from 1971 to 1993.
A483742 dates to 1978-79. serial range for those years was A4750001 to A565000, so 1978 seems likely.
TYR2972 falls between 1991 (TVC7046) & 1993 (TZW9149, the last Model 52-2 produced).

Model 19-2 date confirmation please.

Here's a new to me 19-2. Probably a former cop gun. Lots of carry wear, some perspiration and such. The action is beautifully tight and the internals show no sign of modification or repair that I can see. Bore and chambers are excellent.

I think this one's a keeper for me. I recently deliberately sold off my "too pretty" S&W and Colt revolvers because I didn't have the discipline to leave them the hell alone and they could only get worse for my finger-fouling and maybe shooting of NIB sweeties. OK though as I have other beat looking revolvers to carry and shoot.

This one... given the interior condition relative to the exterior is definitely a keeper - and shooter for me.

As for value? A big caveat is that I am Australian, so the only indicator of current US prices I have is from reading discussions on THR.
That said, Model 19s in 95% or better condition seem to go for $500-$550, with $650 the high end for a NIB with docs.
A police trade in Model 10 or 64 will be around $280 and a high condition Model 10 around $350.
So my guess is that the gun in your pics is probably worth around $400, plus or minus a bit depending on whether there is high or low demand for revolvers in your area.

I got 1965 as well but wasn't sure of the source. I appreciate the confirmation. I'm thinking it might be a blueing project gun for me then an open carry alternative to a couple others I use.

S&W 10-5 year of manufacture

I bought a S&W Model 10-5 from my LGS today for $300 out the door. Supposedly owned by a lady who had passed and had worked for the Arkansas State Police as a secretary for years and the troopers gave her this as a retirement gift according to her daughter who sold it to my LGS. Who knows ?

Anyway, it appears to be fired very little, slight turn mark on cylinder. Blue on revolver is 95% +. No muzzle wear really either. Looks like it may have been stored in a nightstand drawer for years.

It has a 4" inch tapered barrel with factory wood grips. There is a screw in the front of the grip and two screws on the right side of the frame.

The serial number on the bottom of the grip is D2165XX
"97254" and the letter "M" are stamped on the crane. 10-5 is stamped inside the frame

Any info as to date of manufacture and approximate value would be greatly appreciated. Was $300 too much to pay for this revolver. I thought it was a decent price. Thanks in advance for your help.

The numbers stamped under the crane are assembly numbers, used to track parts in the factory. They have no meaning after the gun is completed.

Police and security company trade ins usually go for $280 on Bud's Gun Shop, when available. You would then play your local dealer a transfer fee at your end. So you did well buying a 95%+ gun for the price of a 70% gun.

Your Model 686-1 Distinguished Combat Magnum Stainless was manufactured in 1986. lack of an M stamp means it is subject to a recall. With some magnum ammo the primer can flow back into the firing pin bushing, locking the gun. S&W will pay shipping both ways and install a new firing pin and bushing.
