i plan on working up some 170 Nosler Partitions for Elk and keep the shots within 150 yards ,, dont see a reason that they wont assuming its a good shot angle
I recently bought a 30/30 marlin, throughly enjoyed sighting it do to the lack of blast and recoil. Shot a whitetail with it on a hunt from about 100 yards. Did a fine job with a good wound channel. Makes me wonder why I mess with anything bigger for deer
There is an excellent article in the most recent Handloader about the 35 rem,,,, I usually reach for my 8x57 or 30/06 but i would be just as well off for 80 percent of my big game hunting with my Marlin 336 in 35 remington
I got a ruger 7x57 over the summer , after a fair amount of load work i got it to shoot 175 NP inside an inch ,, going to take it Elk hunting next week ,,hoping it will be a lucky rifle
in this part of western colorado id bet the 270/30-06-7mm rem mag would cover the majority of big game hunters over a certain age,,, with 308/6.5c gaining ground with younger folk
i found an accurate combination over the weekend with the 220 speer and 42.5 grains of LVR powder,,, its a warm load ,, groups started to open with 43.0 grains ...hopefully this fall I will see if 220 speer does as well on game as the 200 rem
i am guessing the FTX does a better job of expanding on heavier game like hogs than smaller deer ,, the one deer i shot with a FTX was through the lungs and ran long ways with a limited blood trail , fortunately it was on snow or i would have had a hard time recovering the deer
thanks for the info ,,, i am really hoping to get new load without burning too many irreplaceable bullets ,,, fortunately i have 5 boxes of the sierra 200 rn to work with,,, would hate to try and find them now ,,,
id love to hear anyone 35 rem loads,,, mine is 42.5 LVR powder for a 200 rem bullet ... unfortunately i am running out of that bullet,, so going to have to find a new setup thanks for any input

in summary of the past 5 pages ,,,,,,,,,,Custers last stand was a perfect storm of all the factors that led to his demise. Lots of questions about that battle just cant be answered now. I cant remember the book, i think it was "the buffalo hunters" but it said that the 45/70 was more popular...
7.92x57 is really a handloaders cartridge these days. Hard to find factory ammo at reasonable prices and the surplus is difficult to find as compared to 20 years ago when I got my first Mauser....
