well thank you men for the quick replys. it does appear that the 32 long smith and wesson is a diff cartridge than the long colt.
i dont have any pics of the gun but it is a pretty ordinary example of this model. it is in very nice condition as were all my gpas things. he took very good care of...
i recently received my maternal grandfathers 32 s&w double action revolver.
i somewhat remember him owning it when i was a child.. it is prob the only gun of his we never took shooting.
it is a 4 inch barrel with unshrouded ejector rod and a rounded butt. case hardened trigger and hammer.
the...
my son at this time likes guns but he is a Democrat. so idk. we hunted together for years and he was a very good shot and took some nice deer. and liked eating deer steaks a lot.
he has a lot of guns of his own. i know he likes a couple rifles i have. idk really what to do.
why would yu need 5?
223 for varmints from woodchucks to deer,30-06 for deer to elk/moose. 375 H$H for anything bigger. the 375 could obviously be replaced with anything with similar ballistics
a lot of what finally got big mature deer in my area of sw missouri was nutrition, plain and simple.in the 70's,80's and 90's, there were no row crops here. everything was fescue pasture.
late 90's guys started planting bermuda pasture, soy beans and the king, corn.
when i was a kid i could not...
a neighbor came over when i was a kid and asked me to shoot some squirrels that were getting into his creep feeder and eating all his calves feed.
i didnt think much about it cuz this guy was tight. if a squirrel ate one kernel of corn he wud be pissed about it..
when i made it over there the...
i dont remember a time when i could go blow up a brick of 22 ammo. when i was in the 6th grade i had saved for years to buy a marlin model 39.
i remember it was the most expensive 22 rifle at wal mart. 104$
i never could afford a brick of ammo to shoot all in one weekend. i cud afford maybe 3...
when a bullet goes thru wood and then hits flesh it does weird stuff.
i once shot a squirrel from beneath, thru a 3 or 4 inch thick white oak limb with a sks.. it literally rained squirrel for several seconds..
i have the worksharp tool you speak of. it works very well and very fast for me. you can sharpen a dull knife if prob 2 minutes. kitchen knives just take a few strokes on each side with the coarse or medium belt.
the tool itself is kind of flimsy and entirly made of plastic. but so far it works...
barked a squirrel from top of a huge sycamore tree with a 45 cal sears and roebuck kentucky rifle kit i put together myself when i was 12 years old..
the rifle was actually really accurate despite my crude craftsmanship.
around here what ive noticed is since we have a lot more row crops like corn and soybeans, the deer get fatter.
a deer shot from above from a tree stand with a bullet exiting the brisket loaded with fat, the fat and hair will seal off the wound and not leave a blood trail. ive seen this several...
boy that is a hard question. im sure your great gpa would be happy either way,
myself, if i had acess to a gunsmith that could do the work, i would prob restore it. i would ask my son first tho if it was something he was interested in owning. if it wasnt i mite just keep it in the shape it is...
when i was a young guy, im 54 now. i was prob in 7th or 8ths grade. my gma would ask for a young coon.
i would catch her one, maybe a 6 or 7 lb coon.
she would cook it. it was the most deicious meat. id ever tasted
another good tip is that i use a large pruning shears to cut off the legs and open the rib cage. very fast.
other than that we dont cut any bones period. everything is boned out. the muscle groups in the hind quarters are seperated and frozen in chunks about enough for a meal for 2. when thawed...
here is a good tip i learned from a old butcher, i dont see a lot of people using it but it works.
when you get your deer skinned,go over it and burn off all the hair left on the meat with a small propane torch.
yu see a hair hit it with the torch and it will pop and disappear.
the old...
