graduation present - rifle or range bag?

Didn't read ANY responses (yes I'm a lazy SOB let's move on), but the rifle is something a person keeps a lot longer in most cases. I wouldn't consider anything but a 10/22 for a new shooter, all my friends male and female do better with them than any other rifle I own with open sights plus you...

Need help buying a 308 rifle

a FAL meets all those requirements and you can get a heavy scope rail mount from DSA... I'd go to Falfiles and chat with some of the guys, look for a guy named Gunplumber and ask him to set you up with a reliable setup from good surplus parts... the cleaning beats anything else mentioned here...

    scope for Marlin

12X isn't crazy if you are just playing at the range, I would think that for hunting you wouldn't need that considering the effective range of the rifle... look at prices at bearbasin (google them) and go from there, in my opinion any cheap 12X glass and you are going to sacrifice the first...

    Semi Auto 308. SA SOCOM 16 , M1A or AR10???

FAL all the way. Realistically, anything that can hit a man sized target consistently at 300 yards is all I need- any farther than that and you probably have the option not to engage. The biggest realistic consideration in my life is ease of cleaning. In handguns I LOVE my 1911 .45 but I...

    .308 shopping

I have a DSA SA58- it's a fine rifle out to 300 yards, easy to clean, and easy to get parts for. I would go on FALfiles forums and see what's around, DSA is great but there is the wait and I found out the hard way that a new FAL needs a lot longer to break in than some other rifles- it actually...

    Is Flash Suppression absolutely necessary?

Whatcha going to be shooting at night? For home defense a rifle would be my last choice, and for hunting hopefully you only need one shot. For couch commando scenarios, they are fantasies so it doesn't really matter. A muzzle brake is probably a better choice if you want to screw...

How many AR mags per rifle?

I own one 4000 round magazine but it sucks to load and very heavy too. Heh, I probably have 15-20 mags but I never had one wear out and if I need to put more than 100 rounds downrage that quick there is damn sure going to be at least another 10-20 people firing with me or I am RUNNING not...

    FAL accuracy - maybe

My DSA SA58 is dead nuts at 100 yards and at 300 I can hit a cantaloupe 9/10 times. If I'm not putting everything at 100 yards into 2" it's my fault, not the gun. I shoot NATO stuff, usually DAG, MEN, and Radway. I have it scoped with an ACOG. Also, when I first got the rifle a few years ago...

    .22 Caliber rifle

I just read some previous responses about the accuracy of the 10/22. These guys are NUTS. My non-shooting friends- girls and guys alike- can usually hit a cherry tomato at 40 yards after a 10 minute tutorial/practice. I know this because our usual game is to set up shish-kebob sticks on the...

    .22 Caliber rifle

10/22. You don't need to modify anything. My non-gun friends that come shooting with me love it as well. This "mod" nonsense started WAY after the gun was a huge success, and in large part BECAUSE they are so great not because you need to do anything to them. And you are short-changing yourself...

    Trouble with Remington 338 Lapua

did you buy it new? I assume so since you mentioned shot count. If not, I think those barrels wear out fast. If new the manufacturer should be willing to take it apart and put it back together verifying everything is as it should be. There are custom barrel makers that can scope the barrel to...

Need your opinion on which .22 to buy.

have the money in hand and wait for a decent deal on a 10/22 there's the new take-down version too. I'd consider that one as well.

Most Accurate and Consistent Velocity .308 Ammo?

DAG or MEN surplus works great in some rifles; Radway Green is also good. In general I'd suggest something you can get lots and lots of for a decent price and that is by a good company and do the minor adjustments on the scope/sights to match the ammo you use. 7.62 out of a .308 is fine.

    Choosing a Mosin ~~LOL!!~~

You guys are hilarious. Making stupid people be quiet restores my faith in humanity. People can say what they want about man made fabrics but until you've used natural stuff like wool and down and fur you just don't get it. We haven't eaten store bought meat in 15-20 years - all venison and...

    Choosing a Mosin ~~LOL!!~~

I know it was a goddang wolf I was kidding. I was educated on the size of the hares though- at least twice as big as I imagined them! Good for you on the wolf. I get the feeling some people think you just step off your porch every day and see a wolf and they don't understand the hours of biting...

Can the ammo situation get much worse?

good! my condolences to competition shooters and those that shoot as their primary/only hobby. I have a decent stockpile and have decided not to start shooting it until things ease up, but I can fish, shoot the longbow, and 100 other things and in the meantime I'd like to think that...

    Larry Potterfield and MidwayUSA

I stopped by today to post this letter, and I'm glad someone beat me to it. We can all verify for ourselves that they haven't done any gouging just by looking at a catalog from 6 months ago. I hope that the current political situation serves to galvanize 2nd amendment supporters as much as it...

    Consider your civic duty...

I don't visit this site often- sometimes months go by between visits- and if 10% of my posts have been in activism I'd say that's all I'm trying to shame some of you "let the other guys do it" members into. Any of you that are members of a hunting/shooting club know that it's ALWAYS 10% of the...
