AR15 Optic Setup - This Back and Forth Must Stop!

"Having zero professional instruction, I am unaware of the potential complications/benefits of running an AR with a 1-4x scope during close-quarters home defense. What things am I not considering? Any comments and wisdom passed on are much appreciated. Thanks " Well, by most parameters, I'm not...

    Motor Oil???

FWIW I'm using Mobil 1 synthetic 0W40 and it seems to be as good as anything else I've used. A real savings for me since this is the "squeezings" that I drain from the bottom of the bottles after changing oil in the ATV's.

    How much to reload?

I suggest having a suitable amount of ammo(reloaded or factory) ready to go and maintaining a good supply of components to reload practice ammo as needed. Reloading components don't help much if you don't have enough ready ammo for the short term.

    LGS owner anonymity?

Seems foolish to me to try to hide while doing business. The FFL has to be posted and usually has someone's name on it. I wouldn't do business with someone too lofty to give their name.

Ar15 mag wont set when full

"I always insert a loaded mag with the bolt open. I don't like having my charging handle fly back and gouge my upper receiver"?????? More explanation of that comment is needed.

    44 mag barrel length question

I have a 4 5/8" and 7 1/2" but no 5 1/2" to compare. I will comment that the 4 5/8" is a handful(for me at least). With my 60ish eyes and arthritic hands, the 4 5/8" is a short range gun. It's the one I carry in bear country if that helps.

    8x57 Mauser build question

A couple of places sell a scout base that attaches to the rear sight base. I have done 2 Mausers that way and they work OK. I don't really like the scout concept so my opinion is not likely to be fair. One of mine uses a 30mm pistol scope and the other uses a reddot. The 3X pistol scope setup...

    AR-15 trigger

In the cases I've seen, that screw against the trigger doesn't work as advertised. By the time you get the takeup adjusted out, the safety won't engage. I bought a box full of Superior branded lowers that have the setscrew built in. None of them allowed all the takeup to be taken out and still...

AR prices fully back to normal

I'm not seeing the lower prices. Looks like complete uppers are still in the $600 and up range. The BCG I see on the auctions are going for $160 and up. In 2010, I pieced together complete rifles for $425 including all the shipping.

    1917 Eddystone

"The Eddystone rifles were the ones that experienced receiver cracking. The problem was having the replacement barrels over torqued during installation" Check my post from a couple of days ago on General Discussions "Blow up a gun.. Experiences?" thread. I don't mess with Enfields...

    Need info: Browning Hi Power

ak610, Unfortunately ,no. He did manage to "liberate" a very nice Mauser 22 bolt action target rifle and a couple of Nazi daggers but all "military" type firearms were left in Europe.

12 or 20 for Upland Game

I carried a 12 SxS(24" IMP CYL & IMP MOD) for many years hunting quail and pheasants. There are lighter choices but I wanted the instant choice of choke/load depending on what flew next. The guys hunting with me using their 12 gauge pump and semiauto guns either couldn't make a killing shot on...

    new 110 bulid in 7mm-08

I would suggest you reevaluate your solution to the stock touching the barrel. If the action was properly bedded or pillar bedded, adding a "shim" under the front ring tossed that feature out the window. I own, shoot, and have built(if you can call assembling factory interchangeable parts "a...

    trigger delay in bushmaster varminter

"I was checking out a bushmaster varminter with the ss barrel in a store. I was dry firing it when nothing appeared to be happening till half to a second later when the firing pin would move." How did you know "when the firing pin would move"? With rifle assembled, you can't see the FP. Did you...

    Rem 700 magazine issues

The 700 does, in fact use the bottom of the receiver as the feed lips(as does the Mauser, Springfield, Enfield and dozens of other, older designs). Often, the cause of feed issues is that the follower and spring have been installed backward or the spring is not engaged under the follower...

Has Anyone Actually Seen A Gun "Go Off" By Itself?

"Remington bolt rifles have a long history of doing so" While this has been widely publicized, I've owned and handled quite a number of Remington 700 rifles and the ONLY one I saw perform this trick had the trigger "adjusted" by the owner. The Grouch Attack experienced an AD with a 700 once...

    7.62x45 rechamber?

According to my copy of "Cartridges of the World", the 7.62x45 uses .309 bullets. I have no reference which gives the bore/groove diameter of the specific rifle mentioned.

"Fissures" inside my AR barrel - normal?

For all I know all my AR barrels might have such scratches but I don't look for them so they don't bother me. I clean them and shoot them. If they shoot satisfactorily, I keep them. DelTons are some of the most accurate standard grade AR barrels I've encountered.

.223 powder with better port preasure?

Just my opinion but 4064 is too slow. There are so many better choices as to make the use of this burn rate powder illogical. I would try some factory ammo and see if the problem continues. You may be getting short stroking for any number of reasons.

    Blow Up A Gun... Experience?

How graphic do you want to get? Short version follows. Action= WW2 vintage P14 (well known as one of the stronger actions available) had been sporterized years ago and fired considerably with the original barrel rechambered to 308 Norma mag. Rebarrelled to 257 Wby. and hunted with for a year...
