Glad I did this... saved some money too!

I was all set to drive over an hour to Kittery Trading Post tomorrow to pick up some 2400, the "go to" powder for 357 Mag (at least, that's what all you experts say). But with time on my hands today I entered some numbers from Lyman's reloading bible, 49th edition, and made a scatter plot...

    Which scope stand today?

Looking for a spotting scope stand. Years ago, Ray-Vin seemed to be a favorite (they're now cloned at hic-tec.com). But there's been no relevant discussion on this topic, here, for four or five years now. Considering what's available today (2024), what would you recommend?

    Just got my NRA ballot

    Where can we discuss?

Jeez Louise, all I want is one hex bolt!

I found the perfect thing on amazon... $361 for a pack of 80  Anyone want 79 hex bolts? Size 7/8 x 14, 1 3/4 inch long; just the thing for cobbling together a homemade gas check expander on your RockChucker. Only $356 and I'll eat the 49¢

Today I found a new way to screw up.

So I'm at the range, putting five at a time through the J-Frame. OK, now for its big brother, the K-Frame. Loaded six, fired five and brought the target in. See the issue? I carry both of these (not at the same time). Fortunately I was at the range, not "in the field." THINK. Always THINK.

Has anyone used this dry-fire system?

I just watched a video from Iraqveteran8888, and this looks interesting. But for me, one video won't make the sale. https://www.strikeman.io/products/strikeman-laser-firearm-training-system

Lyman "Quick Slick"... save your money

What a disappointment. This stuff actually increases friction. My plan for today was to resize some .41 mags but if I hadn't stopped the press stroke early it would have been stuck case city. Pic from Lyman's web site:

    Read the dang directions!

Be careful of this stuff... it says right up front, for brass only.... and apparently they don't mean nickel plated brass....

    gas check conundrum

OK I'm out of ideas. I cast a bunch of bullets for the '03-A3 using a mould I've had for years and never actually used until now (am I the only old bird who does that?): Lyman's 311291. Cast in #2 alloy they come in at 173 gr which is close enough I guess to the advertised 170 gr. This is a...

    which top punch?

I'm trying to identify the top punch to match Lyman 313631. I have the mould but not the box it came in, so lost the label that identified the punch. Can you help?

    re. the BHP: technical Q...

Is the Browning Grande Puissance's firing pin shorter than its channel, or will it hit the primer when the hammer is lowered slo-o-o-w-ly?

    Not a bug-out bag, but...

Hellooo-o-o the camp! The ongoing barbarity against Israel got me to thinking, could it happen here? (I bet you've already sussed the answer.) So I'm thinking, what sort of equipment would I need when caught out, and how to package it? I'll start with the BHP in 9mm (too big for concealed...

    Centennial gripe and question

I really want to love my 40-1 that I've had for 20 years but there's this one problem I haven't solved: It hurts to shoot. The grip safety does a superlative job of concentrating the recoil impulse on a small area of a big hand. (is there anything more useless on a DAO gun than a grip safety...

    Shout-out to S&W's CS

Sent my older J-frame off to S&W for repair. I'd taken the side plate off for some routine lubrication (something I routinely don't do) and discovered the concealed hammer was askew... sitting at a funny angle. Also on the inside of the side plate was an arc shaped scratch where the hammer nose...

    what protects against foam?

Not even sure it's an issue, but I fell to wondering if the foam inside my pistols' hardcases could be a long-term risk to a gun's finish even when kept bone dry. I suppose I could soak the open cell foam in Ballistol, but that would be messy and smelly... I think I'd rather let 'em rust. :-)

    Yoicks! Straight-wall cases DO stretch!

Reloading some .357 mags for the Ruger, which has been feeling kinda left out lately. So: 16.9 gr H110, Federal SPM's, Hornady 158 gr HTPs, brass is headstamped CBC which Google says is made in Brazil (and seems OK, Magtech sources from them). Anyway, I scrunched this one today, as shown...

    Century Arms surplus prices

Something someone said here prompted my to visit CE's web site. There, I found a bunch of interesting man-I-want-that guns, but no prices. What's up with that? Seems a funny way to do business.

    slide grease?

I've been oiling my 1911's slide for years with good effect, but it occurred to me this morning, while contemplating not getting out of bed because every day is Saturday when you're retired, that maybe some kind of grease would be better in this application. Your thoughts?

    What's with the P320?

I'm reading about what appears to be a class-action lawsuit in the making, against SIG. The complaint is that the P320 can fire while holstered with hands free. Note: not while holstering. Several cops are among the plaintiffs. (This is the version without a manual safety.) It's not a...

    Calling all Star magazine experts...

I've been looking for a mag for my model B, 9mm Luger. There are tons of 9 Largo mags out there, but Lugers are almost as rare as dollars these days. Question: could a 9 Largo be made to work in a 9x19 pistol?
