Looking for a fun, inexpensive .22 handgun

I already have a great full-size .22 plinker/practice gun (CZ Kadet). Given the rising price of ammunition, though, I'm looking for more "fun" .22 handguns to add to the stable, preferably under $300. Not really interested in Ruger/Browning .22s. Currently looking at: North American Arms...

    How tight is your holster?

I recently got a IWB leather holster for my P-01, and it's much tighter than any other holster I've tried. I can literally put in the gun in the holster with a full mag, turn the holster upside down, shake it a bit, and the gun doesn't fall out. I've heard holsters are supposed to be like...

What to do when a good gun goes bad?

Unfortunately, my CZ RAMI has recently been giving me problems where none had existed before. Even more unfortunate is the fact that it's my primary belt CCW. I've switched to my 642 and my full-size 75 for the time being, but I have to accept that my RAMI might be beyond hope. I've already...

    3" barreled alloy frame .38 or .357?

I was looking into belt-carrying a revolver awhile back, and while the 3" barreled Model 60 and SP101 called to me, what I really wanted was an alloy-framed 3" barreled .38 or .357 revolver coming in at about 18 or so ounces. I'd stoke it with hot .38+Ps, and it'd be nice if it were a 5-shot for...

CZ P-01 - Detailed review and range report

About the gun I bought a new CZ P-01 for $500 + tax (yeah, it's about $50 too high, but "support your local gun shop" and all that). Made back in 2002 during the AWB, this particular specimen came with two neutered 10-rounders and no NSN code imprint on the gun (which I actually prefer)...

My mind tells me GLOCK, my heart says CZ

I'm debating my next carry gun - either a GLOCK 19 or a CZ P-01. Logically, I know the GLOCK will be far easier to shop for - mags, holsters, and other paraphernalia are obviously everywhere. I know I shoot the GLOCK as well as any gun I've tried, and I know they're as accurate and reliable...

Where is such a 1911 available, at any cost?

I'm looking for a 1911 with: 1. Full length aluminum frame (or similarly lightweight frame - no polymer, please ;) ) 2. Traditional internal extractor 3. No extra firing pin safety of any kind 4. 4-1/4" barrel 5. No weirdness (SA's ILS/firing pin, for example) and as little MIM as humanly...

Interesting case from my criminal law class...

Here's a fun little game - we were reading a case in Criminal Law and they were describing a rifle. See if you can guess the type and caliber (and remember, this is California). For those with access to FindLaw, Lexis, or Westlaw, case cite is: People v. Dillard, 154 Cal. App.3d 261, 201...

Marlin 1894C - the solution to the indoor range problem?...

I recently sold my AR-15, mainly because I hadn't shot it in half a year and I hate having a gun that I am unable to shoot (plus it's not a good idea to use said firearm for self-defense without having shot it recently). I'm a member of an indoor pistol range that's only about 15 minutes...

Perils & Promise of the Used 1911: A Norinco Report and some Questions ... (long)

This post is sort of a primer/first-person account of the experience of buying a used 1911 for the first time. There's also some questions at the end. First, some acknowledgments: Xavier's guide to buying used 1911s (...

    Bought a Norinco 1911A1 ... anything I should check?

I'm a 1911 newbie - this is only my second one, and my first Norinco. I shot 100 rounds through it today and the gun seemed fine - cycling and ejection was consistent and reliable. Field-stripped it afterwards, and it doesn't seem like there's excessive wear on the barrel lugs, which I read was...

    Rejoining the club - 637 or 642?

Well, after a brief fling with pocket autos, I've decided to pick up a J-Frame again for pocket carry (sold a 642 - d'oh!). Has anyone ever had a J-frame hammer snag on their pocket? I liked my 642, but I find myself questioning the assertion that a 637's hammer will make the draw out of a...

    Money clip when pocket-carrying?

Does anyone use a money clip when they pocket carry? Since your gun takes up one whole pocket, I've been finding it difficult to cram the wallet, car keys, and cell phone all in the left side. Additionally, there's the issue of concealment (i.e. "Why does that guy have two wallets?"). I've never...

Typical muzzle blast for a .357?

I fired a .357 magnum revolver the other day that blew back all sorts of hot debris into my face - very uncomfortable. In comparison, shooting a friend's .500 S&W was actually fairly pleasant, mostly because of the absence of said debris. Do all .357s do this? EDIT: It was a 686-4, 4" barrel.

Range Report & Review: Springfield Armory Loaded Stainless 1911 (56k warning)

Well, I snagged a Springfield Loaded for $650 new recently, and I just shot it this weekend. Since there's always a lot of interest in 1911s, I thought I'd do a little review, from the perspective of a diehard CZ fan. :neener: FIRST IMPRESSIONS The Loaded is a step above the Mil-Spec in...

    Fair price for a 686 no-dash ?

The gun has a 4" barrel, the "M" mark (so it's been back to the factory already, I guess), and Hogue monogrips. Overall condition is decent, finish is about 85-90%. Cylinder has a tiny amount of end shake, but in all other respects the gun seems sound. The seller wants $300.

UF student dies in gun accident

A tragedy for a promising young man. I don't know him, but I was born in Winter Park, I was an IB student, and obviously I'm at UF now. I'm definitely curious as to what happened. http://www.alligator.org/pt2/051118cops.php Student dies By STEPHANIE RODRIGUEZ Alligator Writer A UF student...

Oldest handgun you've ever carried for defense?

I just sent my 642 to the factory and I'm using a 70 year old CZ-27 as a pocket pistol in the meantime. It's only .32 ACP, but it's very accurate, reliable, and holds 8+1. What's the oldest gun you guys have carried? (I'm talking about individual specimens here, not designs. If designs...

My CZ Kadet Review and Range Report (with pics)

Well, I finally bit the bullet and bought the Kadet kit for my CZ 75B. I ordered it from J&G Sales for $250 - you can probably get it cheaper if you search around, but I'm too lazy to do much more than Google "CZ Kadet" and check the prices ;). J&G was out of stock, so it took about a month for...

Odd trigger problem on a SW 642 ...

Well, I was giving the snubbie the daily 200 dry-fires, and the trigger ... changed ... during the dry-diring session. Before, every time I pulled the trigger, it went clear to the back of the trigger guard, to the point where it scratched out two parallel marks on the frame. Now, the trigger...
