The front of the slide is also quite different on the two guns. If you look at the pics in sgt127's post on the first page, and pay attention to how the longer barrel of the PP affects the shape of the front of the slide, you should be able to differentiate them quite easily.

A PP once caused me great embarrassment.

One of the first if not the first Soldier of Fortune Shows was in Orlando FL. I was there both for the show and to help a buddy sell at a table. The table next to us was marketing some then new product called "Thunderwear!"

An attractive young lady was at the table and when I showed up my bud says, to my face, in front of Gohd and everybody, "Ask her to show you her PP."

Well I refused of course.
So my bud asked her, "Hey, would you show him your PP?"

She said "Sure. Watch." and shoved her right hand into her jeans and down into the private regions there of while gripping her belt with the off hand.

Well being the Fine, Refined Southern Gentleman that I have been said to be, I turned away so as to not see this event!

My bud says "Oh you missed it." and to the lady "would you do it again?"
I turn back and the lady is tucking in her shirt and stops. Then smiling at me said "now this time watch" and again shoved her right hand into the forbidden zone while holding her belt with the free hand.

Again I turned around. She started laughing and finally said "You have no idea what we are selling do you?" I must admit that for a moment it crossed my mind that I DID know what they were selling and I could not believe they were doing so on the Floor of the Convention Center!

At that point I noticed she did have in her hands a nice looking Walther PP pistol which she sat on the table to pick up what looked like a bikini bottom with the back half missing.

Thunderwear, for those of you that do not know is a holster system worn over the groin and under outer clothing to be accessable through the waist band.

Once I was certain she was not trying to expose herself to me on the Convention Center Floor I watched her holster and unholster a number of times ... without seeing anything I might have to talk to the Bishop about... and thought the system very workable. That such a petite lady could so completely conceal and so quickly access a pistol as large as a Walther PP was impressive... if initially terribly embarrassing for me.

And yes I immediatly thought of the old Mae West line...

How can you tell? I just watched Dr. No and I can't tell the whether the pistol Connery was handed was a PP or a PPK. The only difference between them was a fractional difference in size, no? I can't tell 'em apart in that movie. So was it info in the book? Incidentally my (occasional) carry piece is an early S&W licensee (before they extended the beavertail) and it has been 100% with every hollowpoint I've tried in it.

They are clearly both the larger PP, no doubt.
