Ok I am planning ahead on my next couple of purchases. I want to get a couple of 45acp. What I am looking for are one each of the following:

Small sub-compact for IWB carry (perfer blued)
Large full size for range fun. (perfer stainless)

Keep it in the $1,000 - $1,200 range

I have 9mm auto and quite a few revolvers in .22, 357, and 45 colt. I want to get into 45 autos.

I do not have a 1911 so that will be the obivous choice for the full size.

Right now I am leaning toward

Taurus PT145
Rock Island 1911

I do have a 3rd gernation Smith and Wesson 5906 in 9mm that i LOVE so I am considering a 3rd gen for the full size 45.

Anyway looking for suggestions and opinions. Thanks

Why not get one quality weapon instead of two mediocre/low end guns? If you want a 1911 badly, you could get a Colt for about $900. That is what I'd do.

If you must get two, I suggest the S&W M&P 45 line and the Springfield XD45 line. Neither are stainless, but both are quality .45s.

Because of their width, well lack of width really; and rounded profile 1911s actually carry very well IWB. Thinking along those lines, you could get a blued Officer's style 1911 as your subcompact, and Government size stainless 1911 for range fun. So the best choice, IMNSHO, is to put the full $1000 to $1200 into a high quality, lightweight, two tone, Commander size 1911. :D

I second the RIA. I have owned both Taurus and Rock Island 1911s and the RIA's have better fit and both RIAs I've had were better shooters than the Taurus I had. (I carry a Colt 1991 Commander now)

RIA, and I would not call them a "low end gun" Many of the "high end guns" like Kimber ain't all they are cracked up to be. Keep in mind a new 1911 likes to be broken in with a couple of hundred rounds.

RIA is a low end gun. It may be reliable, but it is a low end gun. I agree with you on Kimbers. They are not worth their price.

Get a single Springfield XDM for about $600 NIB (or cheaper if you find it cheaper where you are). I carry my XDM .40 IWB, which has roughly the same size grip, and I'm a small guy. It's a great gun.

RIA, got this one for $350 basically new accurate and extremely reliable:

In July I bought an American Classic II.

Do a google search for this model.
The reviews have all been VERY positive.
And I'll add to that too.

I've fired about 1,000 rounds or so through mine & just love the fit, finish & feel.
They run about $450-$500, when you can find one.
Just an all around great gun.

They come in blue or stainless.

American Classic II and the American Classic Amigo compact their you go both in blue Hard chrome Full size be a little more.

Coming soon the American Classic will have a home of its own on the net.

Buy the Sig RCS for under $1,000 when Buds has them in stock and then practice with it. Commander size steel slide with a lightweight frame, weighs 34 ozs with 7 rounds of 230 gr hardball in it and carries as easy as a J frame Smith, has night sights and the only thing you'll need to add is a set of fingergroove Hogues if you don't like the wood grips and checkered frontstrap. Not what you started out looking for but it serves both purposes. Does kick like a horse with full power loads in it but with minor power IDPA loads it's a nice little range gun and there's nothing like practicing with what you carry.

Thanks guys. I am not really interested in 1 high end 1911 (yet). Have never owned a 1911 (more of a revolver guy) but do want on to see what all the hoopla is about. Can't stomach spending $1K+ on a single 1911

I am looking to get into 45acp and want one for conceal carry. Figure I could get one of those pretty cheap and also make the entry into the 1911 world.

I think I am pretty sold on the RIA 1911 but still trying to decide on the sub compact 45. Anyone have any additional info on.

Taurus PT145
Karh CW45
Bersa 45
S&W Chief's 45

Espically the differences in Size, Realiability, & Accuracy

Out of those I would go with the Bersa, I have two Bersa's and they are rock solid performers/accurate and have never had any problems with any ammo that I feed them. They are extremely easy to break down and clean, is fully ambidextrous, and has a manual safety lever and decocker.

BERSA .45 UC
• Weight: 27 oz.
• Length: 6.8”
• Height: 5.1”
• Width: 1.45”
