So with all the new releases in the last few years (decade-whatever) what 100+ year old cartridge do you still shoot ? plinking, hunting or otherwise ?

The .22 S, L, or LR is a given; so I'll leave that one out.

I'm currently involved with,

rifles:

30-30 Winchester (1895)

7x57 Mauser (1892)

7.65x53 Mauser (1889)

8x57 Mauser (1905 - new version)

handguns:

38 Special (1898)

9mm Parabellum (1902)

It's true all of these have been surpassed in one way or another, but they've been duplicated to a "T" on many occasions.

So what's your current or favorite "Oldie but Goodie" ?? :D

.22 (have a Win. rifle that's coming up on 100 years old soon)

30-30 Win (57 year-old model 94)

Ruger 77 RSI in 7x57 (newest of the bunch)

Let me see:

.22 LR (handgun and rifle)

.22 Hornet. developed in the 1880s as .22 Winchester Central Fire (WCF) and older than th.22 LR

6.5X55 Swedish Mauser dating to 1894.

.30-30

.30-40 Krag

.30-06.

.303 Brit

.38 Special

.45 ACP

.45 Colt

Rifles:
30-06
30-30
7.62x54R
7x57
8x57

Favorite is probably 7x57. Nice and balanced. I've got two of them, a Mexican Mauser w/ a 24" barrel and a Dominican Republic Mauser with a 20" barrel. I bought the DomRep as a donor action.... then I shot it. Kept it the way it is.

.22LR
.25 ACP
.380 ACP
9mm Luger
.38 Special
.30-30 Win
.30-40 Krag

I have a few firearms that are 100+ years old too (Krag, Savage 99 .30-30 built in 1911, Colt vest pocket .25ACP)

32-20 (model 92' and 53)

38-40 (Marlin 1888)

45-90 (model 86)

45-70 (Guide gun)

44 special (Black Hawk)

30-30 (model 94)

33 WCF (model 86)

25-35 (model 94)

38 special (S&W model 60)

30-06 (model 700)

Off hand I would think that nearly half of the ammo on the shelf of most stores is of a caliber that is over 100 years old. Pre 1916? That is a lot of what we still use.

Off the top of my head:

Rifle
30-30
30-06
45/70
6.5x55 Swede
7.62x54R
303 British

Handgun
38 Special
9mm
44 Special
32 long
45 Colt
45acp

I forgot to add 12 ga. shells. Don't know when 20 ga. shells were developed.

Of course I shoot some of that new-fangled stuff like 357 magnum and 308. :D

The only one I use that old besides 22 LR is what my neighbors curse when they hear it go off in my treestand.

762x54R

Send a little more love to the Big Boys still being used

375 H&H
416 Rigby -Newest addition to the family
470 N.E.

22
30-30
30-06
35 Rem
9mm
45 ACP
38 Special
380
44 Special (I shoot them through a 44 mag if that counts)

The only thing I feel warm and fuzzy about is elegant looking .300H&H. To put is in crude manly way long legs good short legs less good. I like action cut out and hard plastic plate instead of stupid rubber pad on old my old Winchester rifle. I do not care about handgun cartridges looking at them as nails for nail gun meaning as long as they have enough energy and go off reliably to do the job.

.22LR (1887)
.32 ACP (1899)
.38 Special (1902)
9mm (1902)
.45 ACP (1905)

.303 (1889)
.30-06 (1906)
7.62x54R (1891)

In fact the only "modern" rounds that I really shoot are the .380 ACP and .223/5.56 NATO.

hmm, that would be 45acp, 9mm, 7.62x54R, and 8mm mauser and im also considering adding .30 luger in there somewhere when i can find the right donor for a conversion (probably a hi power or CZ-75)
