More and more, my G29 is becoming the go-to everything pistol for CCW, 2nd duty gun, and back-up blaster during tac training.
An easily portable 10mm powerhouse, the 10+1 capacity and lightweight are quite nice. It also handles Double Tap-level ammo with no issues.
In fact, it's been accurate with a range of bullet-weights, so I'm not restricted to one preferred load, although since the cold months set in it's been stuffed with DT's 200gn 10mm XTP-HP load.
By the way and just FYI, but the STHPs
aren't doing anywhere near the "1290fps" that constitutes Winchester's "boxflap" koolaid; rather, chrono data posted over on GT's 10Ring strongly suggests that real-world velocity is closer to 1220fps from a 4.6" G20, with some lots producing data @ or near 1180fps
.
On my horizon for a
full-size 10mm pistol is Vltor's Fortis - provided the gun's durability has been properly vetted before release of the final production model by actually firing several thousand rounds of full-power 10mm ammo through the prototypes, i.e., as in DT or Buffalo Bore-level ammo, not the watered-down
.40-level loads.
Regardless, the all-steel, 5" Fortis is slated to have the same C&L carry mode as a 1911 and the original Bren Ten, while its mag capacity is said to be 15+1. The grip, however, is supposed to retain the same exterior grip dimensions as the BT, despite the enlarged mag capacity.
A couple of pic from the '09 SHOT Show are attached. (These were posted on the 10Ring):
