10mm?

It's kinda funny this last weekend there was a gun show in the town I live in and I bet I sent the better part of 4 hours walking around trying to find something that jumped out and called my name. Nothing did. So my, hoping she'll say yes to my important question, went to the local shop and walked out with a used Glock 20sf. I haven't shot it yet but I have shot my Kimber TLE II in 10mm. That is my go to ccw especially with it being winter time. Once I know I can trust the 20 I'm sure that'll be what I carry when I feel like carrying a Glock. I also have a Glock 21 gen 4. I don't hate the Glocks but I don't love them.

IMO, 10mm is an open carry caliber and I prefer to conceal carry. I'm never going to spend money on a Glock 29 or other compact 10mm. I would carry a 10mm revolver, but we're talking autos here I assume.

Im a big fan of 10MM but haven’t really considered the G29 due to its size. That being said, the Springfield XDM Elite 3.8 10MM isn’t much bigger but I like the way it shoots. I carry it in the winter months IWB CCW and have no concerns with it.

Just for reference here's a size comparison pic of the G29 I used to carry and an N-Frame. 15+1 vs. 6 (and good looks).
Finding a 3" 610 at any price is about impossible. I don't know how the 10mm Ruger SP101 compares in size.

I haven't shot the Springfield 10mm's, I have nothing against them, but I'm sure there are smaller 10mm's than the Glock 29, but I have to think about if they're really worth me spending my money on simply so I could more easily conceal & carry a 10mm pistol.

For a short barrel big bore compact or subcompact, I lean more towards the .45 because velocity loss isn't as significant and the more I think about the .45 GAP and how I can carry 8+1 in a pistol the size of a Glock 19, the more it appeals to me for certain uses.

GP100, which is more an L frame, not an N frame.

Glock 29 with the standard mag for it would still be smaller in height, but it still begs the question of what it's giving me over a Glock 23.

Don't get me wrong, I still see and support what 10mm can do when we're dealing with full size pistols, but put them in a subcompact and I don't see any benefit of them for myself and many others.

You now have the option of the Gen5 20 without finger grooves.

I agree with you, I tolerate the finger grooves but would much rather not have them. I end up dremeling them off and do a undercut on the right side of the trigger guard when I stipple my grips.
I did the same.

The XDME Compact 10mm is great for carry … Stoked with UW 180gr GD’s makes a great option

My 20SF isn’t carried as much as it used to be .. I would carry either of these over a fullsize 9mm or 40S&W .. if I stepping up in size or weight of a pistol…. Im stepping up to a 10mm

and also … the XDME compact 10mm is the finest polymer pistol.. I ever owned …beat out my

My DW 10mm CBOB (Commander-size), on occasion, just so I have an excuse not to sell it.
Far more frequently, a 1911 in .45acp, also in Commander size, but with aluminum alloy (or Scandium) frame.

It’s .357 power but with 16 rounds aboard.

That sums up why I like it. But it's more than just 16 rounds of 357 mag equivalent power. It's 16 rounds in a lighter, more compact gun with the ability to mount a light. I use mine when hiking/camping. The more compact gun carries easier than a revolver and the attached light is comforting when sleeping in bear country.

I started with a G20, moved to the G29 to get an even more compact gun. I shot them equally well and the G29 would use the same 15 round mags, or standard 10 round mags depending on how compact I wanted it to be.

When Smith started making their M&P in 10mm I bought one of the compacts with a safety. I was never really comfortable with the Glocks in my sleeping bag with a loaded chamber. Having the safety on the Smith was the deciding factor for me. The Compact M&P splits the difference in size between the G29 and G20.

Killed a decent buck with the G40 this year, the SRO is awesome. Finally, the $100 rebate talked me into the S&W 2.0. It’s a great carry pistol when the weather is right. Love the 10mm.

Nothing wrong with 10mm, I find it to be a little big for carry use even though I've carried a G29 before, it's still a bit large I suppose. I've had 10mm's off and on but I tend to feel that in my collection the 10mm has a bit of an identity crisis, even though I like the cartridge I wonder is it for carry use? If so smaller framed guns do better, I don't feel 10mm is needed for EDC. Is it for woods use or something? If I feel the need for more power I can whip out the .44's and .500's. Cool cartridge though, but I just tend to not keep it around for long and for me it's kind of a "jack of all trades but master of none" type situation with the 10mm.

I have a new Gen 5 Glock 20. I love the gun, but it seems very picky about ammo. It runs some ammo like a Swiss watch (Blazer Bronze, PMC JHP's) but absolutely chokes on other "premium" ammo like Federal HST with FTF's. I read that 10 mm is often loaded quite soft these days and one needs to look for hot loads for most pistols to cycle properly. Have others experienced the same issue?

Been fiddling with 10mms since 1991 … started w/a Gen-1 Glock 20, which was replaced by Gen-2, that was replaced w/a Gen-3, which was replaced by a Gen-4 40 MOS, that was upgraded by adding Bar-Sto 10mm & 9x25 barrels.

In 1994 I picked up an early Kimber EC2 & a couple years back, a Sig P220 Match Elite Reverse.

Most recently, I heard about (RIA-built) Taylor’s & Co. 10mms that Palmetto St Armory had on sale … went to the PSA site, him-hawed, then backed out of the T & Co. page & was presented with an additional 5% off pop-up. Picked up the 10mm for a mere $379 + shipping.

Upon receiving the Taylor’s 10, I added the following: an RIA 40 S&W barrel & recoil assy; a flat-base FP stop; an arched MS housing; Mec-Gar 40 & 10 mags; and just yesterday, I replaced the ambi-thumb safeties with USGI-style safety & then added a pair of Colt double diamonds. I value & am every bit as pleased with that Taylor’s as I am of any of the aforementioned 10mms.
Taylor’s & Co…

That seems odd. One of the things I like about my Glock 20 (Gen 3) is that it will reliably handle everything I've tried - even basic 40 range ammo.

Yeah it's It's a great woods cartridge. What's not to love about a cartridge with the power to handle large beasts and the capacity for self defense against multiple people?

I find my Glock 20 easier to conceal than my big revolvers and lighter weight. I like having a woods gun that I can conceal for a trip into town and not have to mess with switching guns.

Bonus for me is I EDC a Glock 19, so my woods gun has the same ergonomics, trigger, and feel as my EDC gun, although larger.

Yeah, I went down the 10mm path for a while after I decided that 460 Rowland was probably too much to carry. I ended up downsizing to a Glock 19x when I decided 10mm was too expensive to train with. And there aren't any bears around here, just pit bulls and criminals for which 9mm is adequate. Just had a local woman killed by her own pit bull this week in fact. ETA: I just noticed the time, 10:10. LOL 792_n.jpg?_nc_cat=108&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=8bfeb9&_nc_ohc=nkuvV-UHmtkAX86821D&_nc_ht=scontent.ftol2-1.jpg

Just got my first after all of these years of saying "I don't need another caliber to load for." Picked up a Smith M&P 4.6 with the safety. The grip fit my little hands better than the G20 and the trigger pull was much nicer out of the box. Ditched those co witness sights for Dawsons as I don't plan on putting an RDS on it for the time being. Gonna give it a shot as a woods/Jeep gun instead of my 4" 686. I have about 400 rds through her so far with no issues. Bought a case of S&B reasonable for the range and to collect brass. Got my 100 buck rebate back already which was nice.

I carry a bone stock G20 gen 3 in a safariland 6378 in the spring. Highest black bear population in the country here. And they are cranky in the spring after hibernating, Plenty of scat and tracks on the mountain side. I want the extra popcorn it has over a 9mm when dealing with a cranky bear.
