I, purchased a Chilean M1895 7X57 Mauser made in Berlin Germany by Ludwig Loewe. I, am thinking about using the action for a custom build. Have any of you had any experience with the M1895 Mauser and if so are they quality actions?

The 1895s were a small ring Mauser that had some slight improvements over the 1893.
Their most famous use being by the BOERS in South Africa as they tried to fend off the British Empire. In fact many of the South American 95s were originally intended for eitther the Transval or the Orange Free State. However the blockade forces Mauser to sell them elsewhere.

The bolt on the 95s sit down into a little notch in the action. This was supposed to act like a third locking lug in case there was a failure of the two forward bolt lugs. Hopefully keeping the bolt from coming back into the riflemans face.

The 1893 and 1895s will not safely handel hot 7x57mm loads. And while some were converted to fire 7.62mm NATO, they are not really strong enough to fire commerical 308 Win loads.

Leaving it in 7x57mm mauser and making up some nice handloads may be the way to go. They are usually pretty accurate..

If you really need to make a custom rifle from your historic 1895 Mauser, think about moderate pressure cartirdges with a case lenth that will match up to your magazine.
257 Roberts, 7x57mm Mauser, 6.5 x55mm Swede Mauser, 6.5 x54mm Mannlicher
