Putting aside the Star 1911 clones in 9mm, what 1911 style guns have been availible in 9mm? I'd love to have something small in 1911 style carrying that ammo. Has there been many like that? Thanks.

Some, but thin pickings

There have been some over the years, such as the Colt Officer's in 9mm and the Springfield Ultra in 9mm, but I believe both are out of production. You might look at the STI LS9, which is in production and a very slim 1911 in 9mm.

As pogo2 has mentioned, STI makes a small 9mm. I think kimber (tac pro 2) and springfield (ultra something?) make a commander sized 9mm (please correct me if I wrong).

springfield offers some of there 1911's in 9mm,also as mentioned above colt offered the commander in 9mm also!there are a few on gun broker,up for auction now!!!!!also i believe kimber offered one of there compacts in 9mm!!!

Kimber has two guns chambered in 9mm, the Stainless Target (full size) and the Tactical Pro (4.25" barrel). My wife has the stainless target and it's great, I imagine the tactical pro would be also.

I've got the Springfield 9mm. Shoots fairly well. I replaced the ILS with a standard mainspring housing and parts. The trigger is much improved over the ILS. Accuracy is acceptable, but nothing to write home about (My P226 and CZ75B SA are more accurate). Recoil is virtually nothing with all the 1911 weight.

tony - the new Para is called the Hawg 9. It's a compact 1911 in 9mm with a 12 round magazine. It's a cute little devil! :fire:

Para also offers their 9mm LDA HiCap Limited in 9mm. I use one to shoot USPSA Production matches and love it! :)

I have a Kimber Tac Pro in 9mm. Great gun. Its been 100 percent with all types of ammo so far.
Good mags are a big part of making a 1911 9mm run correctly.

How about a Hi-Power?

Hey, its kinda 1911-ish and a great slim 9mm. Most 1911/45 guys also dig shooting Browning's other great autopistol design - the Hi-Power....check one out.

...just a suggestion.

Unless there is something terribly wrong with it, grab it up quickly! These were in high demand a couple years ago, and any Colt for $400 is a deal if there's nothing wrong with it.

They were the "hot setup" for ESP division in IDPA a couple years back. Don't know if they are still in demand or not.

Of course the Hi Power is the 1911's brother and a great pistol.
I had a Springfield that was problematic, traded it.
I have a Kimber Pro Carry II in 9mm on order. If this is as reliable as my Kimber .45's it should be a great pistol.

I really wanted an STI LS9, but found the slide doesn't stay back after the last round and a guy around here has one that has been back to STI at least four times. It seems to be a great little gun, it may need work.

Good luck.

What's that? My LS9 locks back, may want to check the magazine followers, they've had some problems with magazines in the past. Metalform 9rd government mags and detonics mags have worked fine in mine.

What Matt said. I, too, have a Kimber TacPro II in 9mm. Great gun (so far) only have about 500 rnd thru, but nary a bobble with a mix of factory FMJ & JHP. Accurate, sweet trigger, excellent fit & finish. Worth a look.

I have the Trojan in 9MM and it is a great gun. If you have not shot a 1911 in 9MM you are missing out on something special Now if you want to go hi cap buy a CZ 75/85. I have both the hi-power and cz and the cz in my opinion is a much better gun. Browning may not have designed it but had he lived he would have! If I only had one pistol to forth and survive I would belt on the CZ. The Para p_18 I think would be an awsome gun as well but I don't own one and can't comment.

1911 in 9mm

Make sure to use quality mags and rounds are long enough...otherwise, its the one to hate. :)

There's a 9mm Colt Combat commander around here for $400... Should I snap it up? Fair price? Average?
Its a buy, buy, buy, buy! Hurry! Even if its goofy, the price is so right. In my neck of woods, Colt 9mm and .38 supers always go for $750 or more.

Sounds like a good deal, provided it's in good condition.

Even if you had to get a gunsmith to work on it to get it to feed with a couple of new Metalform mags, you'd still be ahead if you can get it for $400.

Tim L, your LS9 locks back? Did they make a recent design change? If so, that's a bummer. According to the STI LS9 page it doesn't lock back anymore:

looks like they made a change, don't know how recent, I've had mine for 18 months. if it was always that way then mine fails once every mag.
