Have 1911-style guns been made in 9mm? I know of the Stars, but they have no grip safety, and really, only look like 1911s. Any guns with the 1911 form and function, or am I committing heresy by asking?

Some Colts, both G.M. and Commander although they are not now in production.
Springfield is making 9mms in 1911A1 and Ultra Compact.
STI Trojan is available in 9mm.
Kimber says they will make the Tactical Pro in 9mm. Although not the Tactical Custom, dang it, I'd like to have a lightweight 5" 9mm.
Word is that Wilson will build a 9mm for $150 over the price of the corresponding model .45.
I have heard of 9mm Norincos and RIAs.
Almost any .38 Super with a 9mm barrel and extractor adjustment.

Yes, in the past Colt made Gov't size (5" bbl) and Commander size (4-1/4" bbl) 1911s, in various series 70 and 80 vintages. Nowadays, Springfield makes both a full sized and compact--3-1/2" or so with a shorter grip frame--version. And just recently, Kimber has been producing a 5" 9mm. Also, Dan Wesson and STI have such a thing in their lineups, though they're not seen much in my parts. FWIW, I have a Gov't model "1991A1" Colt that has run perfectly from day one, with any ammo I've ever fed it. Being one of their "econoguns", it just ain't pretty.
