My wife informed me that she wants to get me a 1911 for Christmas. At the same time informing me that she can't afford my holy grail 1911( an Ed brown).
She's looking at around 1500$ and would like to get it by Christmas. Any suggestions? I enjoy full size, fixed sights and no internal saftey

At $1,500, with no firing pin safety, I'd probably pick an STI Lawman. It does have the Tactical Adjustable Sights, though I think they sit in a standard Novak cut so you're not dealing with replacing a Bomar cut if you don't like them.

I picked-up a Remington 1911R1 SS enhanced last week; a little over $900. It is a beaut. Shoots better than I can at 15 yards.

My personal preference is the stainless S&W Gvt and that will about kill your budget. Second choice would actually be the Ruger Gvt and that will leave you plenty of $$$ for ammo or components to roll your own.

If it's money you want to spend, I agree that Kimber makes beautiful guns. But Wilson makes better ones for 3 times the price. There is no need to spend that much money on a 1911. You can put a set of Sarge's Burled wood, or VZ's new series grips on any 1911 and achieve a similar look. Along with a stainless finish and a set of good night sights, or a set of Laser grips. You will still come in under your 1500 and do it for 1200, with a Colt Combat Commander, or even a SR 1911 in commander. When I put the "Handler grips" on an R1, everyone thought it was some 2000 dollar gun. Best part was it shot like one.
It's nice to look at pretty guns, but unless you carry it or at least shoot them more than casually, they are priced over their worth.

Is $1500 just for the gun or for the gun and goodies?

If just for the gun, you've got plenty of fine production guns to look at. We can help narrow them down if you give us more qualifiers. You've said full size, fixed sights, no internal safety (no series 80 or Swartz).

Just a few questions.

Alloy or steel frame? Light rail frame?

Stainless or blued? Shiny or matte? Black stainless? Two tone?

Night sights? Adjustable combat night sights (that look like fixed sights)?

Do you want certain slide serration configurations?

Do you want certain grip checkering on front/back strap or trigger guard?

This will help us narrow it down for you.

I currently have 2 full sized 1911's. A Smith 1911TA which is a stainless with light rail and a Sig STX. They both are excellent out of the box and for your criteria so far. Well, the STX has adjustable combat night sights which are ingenious.

Sounds like you have a great wife. I usually get a shirt and underwear from Marshall's.

why not a Baer?

Sounds like a great wife. Mine wanted a divorce for Christmas. Of the high end 1911s Les bAER has the most reasonable priced. They start a about 1800 but assure your little darling that she is worth it! It might work! I know Les pretty well, as I have worked for him for twenty three years.

For not much more you can get Colt Marine Core Commando rail gun in baked on tan finish. LGS had two pass through with retail price of $1675. "Blue Collar Boys" luv military hardware so it should hold value very well.

$1,500?

Choices, in order of preference:

1. Dan Wesson
2. Dan Wesson
3. Dan Wesson

Google will be her friend in the search. My most recent came from Kentucky Gun Co. Any questions? :D

I don't have a preference for the finish, I like steel, don't care about checkering either way(though some would be nice), not a huge fan of light rails
Using google Dan wesson seems to be nice as well as smith and wesson and sti(of which I was unaware)
Obviously I can google was just hoping for some opinions on the available options
And yes, my wife is awesome

Both my DW and my Les Baer cost right around $1200 each. I have also seen two Wilsons in that price range.
May take some patience, but it's worth it.

you can get Colt Marine Core...
Wow.
Sumper Fye, Gomer.

Dan Wesson for sure. Look for a stainless Valor.

There's an ECO sitting at my LGS right now for $1450. I wish my wife were as generous.

I recommend the Springfield loaded GI with adjustable sights under her price range or the Match pistol $100 over her price range.

1911's I own* or have owned:

Springfield GI with mods
Kimber Custom II (early "Clack")
Kimber Elite Carry
Wilson KZ-45
Colt Rail Gun*
Wilson CQB
Smith & Wesson 1911PD*
Dan Wesson PM-9*

The brand I'd buy again without reservation? Dan Wesson. So much so that I want to replace the Rail Gun with a Specialist and the PD with a Guardian. Yes, the CQB was superb and even the KZ was eventually 100% reliable (after upgrading the external extractor spring and mag springs). The Rail Gun has been 100% from day one, but is significantly looser and contains MIM parts. The Dan Wesson is only a shade off the CQB and contains all tool steel parts, but is significantly less money. Between an entry level RIA and the CQB, I don't think there's a better bang for the buck 1911 than the DW. JMO, YMMV! :)

well don't have many but if you can find one a 1911 colt wiley capp would be my go to, but also depending on what I'm doing my para ordinance super Hawg is nice with 14rds.... but colt gets my vote
