Greetings,

I have two simple questions.

1 - What holster do you use to carry your 1911 IWB?
2 - Did it ever happen the safety went on while carrying? Was it an ambi-safety?

I am asking because I plan to carry a 1911 IWB but I am a little bit nervous about shooting myself.

I know...I know... There is the safety, the grip safety and the trigger is covered. :banghead: But it is in my head and I need to feel warm and fuzzy when I carry. :neener:

Thank you

i use three different holsters for my 5" 1911:

1. a Blackhawk SERPA, for when i OC. i use this one the most.

2. a Desantis Mini Beltslide, when i CC, and am going to be sitting or driving alot.

3. an El Paso IWB, an IWB, if i'm going to be out an about, and walking around.

i've only ever had an issue with the safety coming off with the Desantis. i have a Taurus PT1911, so it's an ambi safety. but, since i follow the rules, and never put my finger on the trigger, i'm not worried about a ND.

just chill, baby.

Nighthawk IWB and Yaqui Slide. AND no...

The only time I had a problem with a thumb safety was with a Colt Series 80 with an ambidextrous safety. Sometimes I would rub against something and trip it off. Replaced it with a left side only thumb safety and problem solved...

I carry a 5" 1911 (with left side only safety) in a Gary Brommeland Max Con V leather IWB holster. This holster covers both the trigger and the safety switch, so the safety on mine has never been accidently flicked to the "off" position.

This holster was expensive (around $110), and the wait at the time was almost a year. But it is a truly excellent holster, and would recommend it to anyone.

5 Shot Leather.com

IWB Burton by John Ralston.....simply the best IWB holster, leather and craftsmanship for the price........Have one for each of my 1911 Gov't, Series 70 Combat Commander, S&W M&P 340 and Sig 220 Compact.

It's one terriffic holster........................

I carry with a Sparks Summer Special II. One of my carry 1911s has an ambi-safety. I've never had it accidentally disengage (or any of my other 1911s).

If you have a 1911 with a grip safety, you have no problems.

I don't like the ambi that came on my 1911, so I replaced it with a colt factory type, (also the slide stop). I have not ever had a problem with the safety "unsafing" itself, and I have been carrying 1911's on and off since the early 1970's, sometimes just loose in a coat pocket.

I carry in a holster I designed and made myself.

No. My holster is designed with a leather "button" or cam on the back which positively engages the safety lock. You can take an M1911 unloaded, cocked and unlocked, shove it in the holster and when you pull it out, the safety will have been cammed to the "on" position.

I use a Milt Sparks VMII. NO issues whatsover. As others pointed out the gun is very safe due to the grip safety. I perform a safety check of the grip and manual safety after every cleaning and reassembly. Never found an issue there either.

Old Bianchi "Colt Govt 45". Old shoulder rig by Galco.

Yes, the safety has come off before. No, I don't worry about it. The hammer still has to fall, and even if it does, without the trigger rearward it will catch on the safety notch, as intended by JMB.

As soon as it is unholstered, my thumb automatically pushes up on the thumb safety as a check. Kind of a routine any time I pick up a 1911 with the hammer back.

I actually just recently got a good 1911 holster, so that's all I have been carrying lately. Its from a local leather maker but no I haven't had problems with either my colt LW commander or my springfield government model with the safety giving any issues.

I carry a 5" 1911 in a Milt Sparks VM-2.

Never had the safety come off while carrying in close to 10 years.

Greetings,

Thank you guys for all your suggestions. I look at all of them.

I spent all night yesterday to try to find a holster "In stock" or with relative quick turn around time for a Para 18.9 (same profile than a para 14-45)

Finally, I found one in stock and it looks good. It is the Desantis Cozy Partner: http://www.desantisholster.com/stor...ction=prepare_detail&itm_id=12267&itm_index=0

Before I order, anyone has one or heard bad things about it?

Thank you

Three different IWB. All lock the safety in place. I use Mexican carry on occasion and haven't had a problem with the safety, however, I don't recommend it if you're playing tackle football.

ETA: Ambi safeties.

I carry in a Galco N3 IWB and it is the perfect holster for me and my 1911. It's non-obtrusive, secure and comfortable, to me. I can carry my 1911 all day in any weather with no problem with printing of being pinched or anything like that. YMMV.

I use a Nick Matthews IWB that has been the best holster I have ever owned.
Never turned off the thumb safty while I carried IWB.
