1911 vs Glock for CCW

With IWB, I think the bbl length can make a difference depending on your body structure and what you are doing.

Sitting down with a 5" is a lot different for me than with a 3-4".

I'd hate be quoted out of context with this subject. ;)

i happen to own several glocks, and several 1911's. i own a glock 36,
and a colt defender. both are good guns. i have carried the g36 for 8 months. i will be putting the g36 away. the defender is about as light,
holds one more round, and has better trigger pull.
this is not to knock the glock. i use a glock for competition, ppc, idpa and ipsc.
colt has done a good job with the defender.
shoot several guns and see what works for you. i always seem to return to the 1911.

Tamara,

Biggest argument for the 3"-4" barreled 1911s is they generally come with a shorter butt - Colt Officers ACP length - which does aid concealment. The argument for the original Commander wasn't the 3/4" shorter barrel/slide but rather the aluminum frame which saved conciderable weight.

Given your expertise I realize you already know all this, but thought it might be useful for other's consideration.

I think a Pro Carry with a reliability tune from a good pistolsmith would be an outstanding CCW!

Choices, Choices!!!!

Yep, I been on the same wheel! Hehehe!
I had two Glock 30's. Sold the first one because it was far too fat for my tastes, sold the second experiment after some reliability issues(yes, with a Glock!!) and, yes, it was still fat!!(sometimes we just do not learn!!)
I have only shot the G36 and it was accurate and thinner, BUT I got three Officer's sized 1911's and alot of Wilson mags for 'em, I like the feel in my hand and on my hip and prefer the KISS principle! So, with 1911's I'll stay!
I have two Colt Officer's and a ParaOrd LDA Companion(duty gun) that I trust my life too every day!
I had an opportunity to get a Colt CCO and Defender a few years ago, but the financial crisis of a Divorce interferred with that otherwise, they would be MINE. I have been looking at the Kimber Compact CDP and love the feel of 4inch guns on the officer's frame!!
It is not the barrel length that matters for IWB, it is the grip and the Officer frame seems to hide alittle better. Which is unfortunate for my Government models, for they seldom come out to play anymore!!
I have also had a Commander and Combat Commander and both were real nice, and three 1991A1's(full, compact and commander)...still wish I had those! But I do not regret getting rid of(or experimenting in the first place) the Glock 30.
But then again, I am a 1911 fan(atic)!

Thinner pistols are easier to conceal than thicker ones, all things being equal.

1911.

if the barrel is going to be down inside your trousers, what difference does it make how long it is? IWB, a 5" 1911 is no harder to carry than a Commander.

Thanks Tamara for helping me with my selection of a 1911!

While the 5" barrel may be no harder to conceal than the 4" barrel, most of the 4 inchers can be had with an alloy frame, and the decreased weight is very noticeable.

Also, a 4 inch barrel also is easier to deal with when sitting... a 5 inch barrel sometimes pokes into the seat, or makes a clunk when the barrel hits to chair.

'Nother trade-off in 4 versus 5 inch 1911

The 4-incher will clear leather faster and be quicker to aim. The 5-incher will be steadier on target and have a longer (means better) sight picture.

If you are in deep **** don't use 911, use 1911.
