Yeah, but you have all that tasty elk meat. I'd say you're good. Damn nice bull you tagged.Man i would really like to get a couple of those. On one hand I’m very thankful that they haven’t invaded into my part of the country, but a small part of me gets jealous that I can’t just go out and whack some wild pork.
Thanks! And surprisingly, he has tasted pretty good for being a bull in his prime. I’ve cooked a few steaks, made some jerky, summer sausage and tacos from him and so far, so good. Usually those prime age bulls are a little rankYeah, but you have all that tasty elk meat. I'd say you're good. Damn nice bull you tagged.
I honestly can’t remember the last time I ate one. I’m not a big pork fan to begin with and when you add in the concern of brucellosis and that rank wild pig odor, I’m all the way out on wild pork. I think I’d be more on board with the pest control and taking a nice skull or two, i have eaten feral hog once and it wasn’t the greatest. But a nice skull, cleaned and whitened up for the mantle? My buddy Jack nailed this guy bout 7:30 this morning.
I swore up and down that if I saw a shooter bull in the bottom of a canyon or steep draw I would have the patience to wait him out til he got to higher ground. Luckily this guy was in a pretty good spot when I took the shot. I’ve helped friends in the past pack elk, mule deer, and a desert bighorn out of some hellacious country, so I completely feel your pain thinking about packing one out on switchbacks!
IF you have horses for a pack out job……I may be a jackass but a horse I am not. That's why when hunting with horses one walks with the horses to the downed game, they get enough workout on the packout. One is happy to give the horses/mules alfalfa and grains after that.
They are the best eating Congratulations to your nephewHowever I can not take credit for the deer hanging in back.My wifes nephew got him hes 10 and very proud.
