I have obtained a .22 LR and the previous owner said he remembered having the gun as a kid in the 1950’s. I just restored the rifle and did not locate any markings or serial number. I don’t know if the markings are gone from previous rust removal or if it never had any. The only markings are “ON” “OFF” for the safety. Is anyone familiar with this style gun or any manufacturers that didn’t stamp their firearms around the 1950’s? I’m trying to determine the make/model and value if someone knows.

Yes it's a M81. The rear of the bolt looks like the #4 newer style. IIRC that puts it later 50s to early 60s. Dig around on the net for "bolt styles". You can marrow it down more if it has plain or Micro groove rifling.
How can I tell the rifling?

Agreed, its an M81. Most of the markings would have been on the LH side of the barrel. It probably never had a serial number since they weren't required on .22s prior to 1968.

I had an M81E. It functioned fine, but was rather heavy and not terribly accurate, IME.
I still have an M80E which is one of my favorite.22s.
