What is a good price on 30 round AR magazines? Where can I find them and for how much? Please provide a hyperlink if possible. Thanks.

No offense taken. Glad to know someone else has the same question as me.

I have seen C-Products sold on 44mag.com for $10 a piece, can't beat that. This was a special they had going on about 6 months ago I think.

If you watch the Equipment Exchange on ARFCOM, you can easily get USGI surplus 30 rounders for $10-$12/each-> often times that includes shipping:)

Most people seem to think the SS mags are a solution looking for a problem. They should be more durable than aluminum mags, but good quality aluminum mags seem to last forever anyway. But, aside from being a little heavier than the aluminum mags, the only thing they're gonna hurt is your wallet.

Wow!

I come in here wanting to find AR-15 mags and it's the very top post! 44mag has only the ones with chrome springs as opposed to stainless steel. Which is better? Also, they have dry film and stainless steel mags...again, which is better? My Bushmaster M4A3 is basically a SHTF rifle that will sit in my gun safe for the most part. But I do want to have about 10 spare mags and a 1000 rounds handy.

Wideners also has the C-Products mags with magpul followers for about $12 or so. I think it is www.wideners.com. Must be right since it is blocked at work for "weapons". :)
The 30 rounders and 20 rounds are the same price on that site. I bought a couple of each and they worked flawlessly. Very well made mags.

A couple things:

1. Price isn't everything. Look at the quality. How are the lips formed? Nice and sharp corners, well defined? What about the spot welds? How many? How big are they? Little pin pricks, or a good solid 1/8-1/4" in diameter?

2. Steel mags. Yes they are tough. But they have three possoble drawbacks: 1. Steel can rust, aluminum won't. 2. They are heavy. 3. Which will wear faster with repeated use? The steel mag body, or the aluminum reciever? Which of those is the more expensive component? The mag? Or the reciever?

Just things to consider before you plunk down your money.

I agree on price vs quality. The C-Products mags with magpul followers are the same price as other mags of lesser quality. I wish I had known that a few years back. It would have saved me a little money.

chrome springs as opposed to stainless steel. Which is better

Cproducts opines:

Q: Chrome silicon spring versus 17/7 stainless?
A: Every spring will take a set when compressed. A 17/7 stainless spring in a 20 or 30 round magazine will take a set the first time it is compressed and will continue to do so each time the magazine is reloaded eventually losing its load. A chrome silicon spring will take a set the first time and maintain that load each time the magazine is reloaded.

chrome silicon can rust, 17/7 stainless won't.

Cproducts mags have had some issues as of late. You might want to wait awhile, and see if they go away.

30 Round AR Mags.

My son just recieved an order from CDNN of a dozen Asian made 30 rounders, for $8 each. He is very happy with them!!! They come wrapped in an oiled paper and inside a plastic bag for each Mag. They fit his Bushie very well. Haven't had a chance to shoot them yet but they sure do look good!

are the ones with the magpul follower alot better?

The Magpul followers were designed with the goal of providing an 80% increase in reliability over the green follower USGI magazines with just a follower change. IIRC, Magpul has some inhouse test results that suggests that they hit that mark; but since there is no independent third-party testing showing it, they don't claim it in their marketing material.

My own experience has been that I took six mags that were giving me trouble (black follower pre-94 mags) and replaced the springs and followers with SAW heavy-duty springs and Magpul's first generation follower. All of them are now among my most reliable mags (even one with a substantial dent in the mag body).

On the other hand, I still run a lot of black follower mags that have no failures that I can trace back to the magazines - and these have the original pre-94 USGI springs and tilting black follower. So while I feel the Magpul follower is definitely an improvement, I wouldn't expect an earth-shattering difference in performance.

I put magpul followers and ranger plates on half my AR mags, the other half have the standard green follower (all are aluminum standard GI mags) and some older ones with black followers. I haven't had problems with any of them. The ranger plates are kind of nice because they give you something to grab when pulling it out of a pouch or pulling the mag out with a double-feed situation, and you don't have to worry about dings as much if you let the mag drop on hard ground. With the magpul followers and ranger plates you will have to download to 29 (I believe it says that on the package also).

What do y'all think of the polymer tacti-pull things offered by Cproducts for 3 dollars extra?

Do they add enough length to a curved 20-rounder to make the 20s usable out of 30 round magazine pouches, and do they add to much length to a 30 to make them unusable in normal pouches?

Thought: I don't have _any_ magazine pouches, or any use for them. Why the hell am I asking about magazine pouches? The world may NEVER KNOW.
